Content Management (CMS) Training for the Web to be offered
The Office of Web Development will be offering training sessions on CMS for the web for areas that will be creating or maintaining
their web pages using the Rhythmyx CMS system. These sessions are customized to the needs of the department and the knowledge
level of those being trained. The hands-on sessions are an introduction to the CMS system and include instruction on how to
navigate through CMS, how to create new web pages and how to maintain existing CMS web pages. Additionally for new CMS web
sites, discussion will be held regarding the 'next steps' required to move a web site into production.
A request for training may be completed by contacting the TSC at 2-0999, tsc@bgsu.edu. Any specific questions regarding CMS
may be directed to the Office of Web Development at webdev@bgsu.edu.

TECS program applications being accepted
The TECS program is looking for faculty who would like assistance in order to incorporate technology into their classroom
and course material. If you are a faculty member who could benefit from a student assisting in this type of technology development,
the TECS program can help. Each semester a TECS student is paired with a faculty member to complete a project enabling the
use of technology in instruction. Applications for the spring 2006 TECS program are currently being accepted. Visit the TECS

How to make the Portal work for You is a hands-on instructional forum to introduce MyBGSU users to the functions available
within the portal and how to customize the portal to work best for each individual user. Sessions are open to all BGSU faculty,
staff, and students, seating is limited. No registration is necessary.

2005 BGSU Northwest Ohio Technology Fair
The 2005 BGSU Northwest Ohio Technology Fair will showcase 56 vendors and a high school Web contest. The event will be held
in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union Lenhart Grand Ballroom from 10-3 on November 10 and is free and open to the public. Drawings
for prizes will be held throughout the day and winners of the high school Web contest will be announced at 11 a.m.
Break-out sessions will be offered in Room 201 of the Union throughout the Day.

- noon - Logical Choice Technologies will present on the topic of 21st Century Inveractive Collaborative Classrooms

BGNet e-mail Outage Scheduled
An outage of the BGNet e-mail system will occur on Monday, October 31 starting at 11:59 p.m. and will last for approximately
one hour. This outage is necessary to apply critical hardware maintenance to the system, and during the outage period all
BGNet services (including inbound and outbound message delivery, WebMail, and POP3 and IMAP mailbox access) will be unavailable.
All incoming messages during the outage period will be queued for delivery following the completion of the maintenance. Any
questions regarding this outage may be directed to the Technology Support Center (TSC) at tsc@bgsu.edu, 2-0999.

Tech Trends - Copyright and the Use of Multimedia in Courses
ITC (Information Technology Committee), Office of the Exective Vice President, and the Office of the CIO will be sponsoring
a series of technology related forums entitled Tech Trends. The first in this series is Copyright and the Use of Multimedia
in Courses to be presented on Thursday, October 20 from 11am-12:30pm in Room 201B Bowen Thompson Student Union. During this
presentation, Dr. Bonna Boettcher, University Libraries and Dr. Paul Cesarini, College of Technology will present and demonstrate
the new BGSU Copyright Policy and the Interactive Guide to Using Multimedia in courses. Topics to be covered include what
copyrighted materials may or may not be used in classrooms, what constiutes fair use of materials, what would be a violation
of copyright, how do the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and the Technology, Education and Copyright Harmonization
(TEACH) Act factor into use of copyrighted materials. The forum is open for all interested faculty, staff, and students to
attend.

View Paycheck self-service demonstration
The View Paycheck and View Compensation History self-service application will be demonstrated during open forums on Tues.
Sept 13 @ 1:30-2:30 pm and Wed. Sept 14 @ 8:30-9:30 am. Sessions will be held in 101 Olscamp and are open to any University

Technology-equipped classroom training
A training session covering the operation of equipment and streaming video in technology-equipped classrooms will be offered
on Friday, September 16 from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Technology-equipped classrooms contain, at a minimum, a permanently installed
video projector and VCR. All sessions will be held in 225 Olscamp and registration is not required. Any questions regarding

BGSU Home Page
The BGSU Home Page will see several revisions as of Tuesday, September 6. These revisions are outlined on the web at the Web
Resources link within the Web Development web pages. Web pages in the Content Management system will automatically be updated
once the revisions have been implemented. Any web pages using the University "look and feel" that are not a part of the content
management system will need to be updated in order to be compatible. A zip file with the template will be available on the
above referenced web site after the update on September 6. In order to complete this update, the CMS system will be unavailable
from 3-5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 6.

Introduction to Blackboard
Introduction to Blackboard sessions will be offered on Wednesday, August 31 from 9-10 am and Friday, September 2 from 1-2
pm in 222 Education. These hands-on sessions will show participants how to use features such as placing a syllabus on Blackboard,
uploading content, sending e-mail to classes and configuring the course menu. Debra Beach of Instructional Media Services
and Connie Molnar Director of IDEAL will be leading these sessions. Registration is not required prior to attending. Questions

The hours of availability will be:

"What PeopleSoft Brings To Me" Letter Mailed
University faculty and staff can expect to receive, at their home mailing address, a letter regarding "What PeopleSoft Brings
To Me". This letter, mailed on May 23, provides information about the move to PeopleSoft and the impact on employees by their
University affiliation: faculty, administrative staff, or classified staff. This first phase of PeopleSoft implementation
focuses on the areas of Human Resources, Benefits, and Payroll and will "Go Live" on June 27. Complete project information

On Saturday, July 2, My BGSU will be unavailable from 12:01 a.m. until 6:00 a.m. in order to complete an upgrade. During this

Outage Scheduled for e-Time for Students
e-Time for Students will be unavailable beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, June 19, through 8 a.m. on Tuesday, June 21. This
outage is necessary to complete preparation of the system for conversion to PeopleSoft. During the outage, both card readers
and Web-accessible features of e-Time will be unavailable.

Desktop Computer Replacement Process
The desktop computer replacement process for the upcoming year (FY 2005-06) has begun. The initial letter outlining the process,
allocations, and inventory details has been distributed to the President, Vice Presidents and Deans. Each area is responsible
for the completion of requests via the web application by May 2. Deployment will begin in May and will continue throughout
the summer.

TECS Applications Being Accepted
The TECS (Technology Enhancement and Classroom Support) program is accepting applications for summer and fall faculty projects.
In a typical TECS project, a faculty member and one or more TECS students work together on such tasks as: producing classroom
presentations; improving technology usage skills; adopting new instructional techniques or software.

"What PeopleSoft Brings To Me" Letter and Open Forum
University faculty and staff can expect to receive, at their home mailing address, a letter regarding "What PeopleSoft Brings
To Me". This letter, mailed on May 23, provides information about the move to PeopleSoft and the impact on employees by their
University affiliation: faculty, administrative staff, or classified staff. This first phase of PeopleSoft implementation
focuses on the areas of Human Resources, Benefits, and Payroll and will "Go Live" on June 27.
Open forums to review the contents of the letter and answer questions will be held in 101 Olscamp Hall on June 7 at 1:30 -
3:30 p.m. and June 15 at 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. These sessions are open to all university employees and no registration is necessary.

Campus One Card Vendor Presentations
The Campus One Card Steering Committee is providing an opportunity for the campus community to hear the presentations of vendors
being considered for the implementation of a Campus One Card system. These presentations will be held in 117 Olscamp Hall
and will also be available to the Firelands campus. Vendor presentation will be made by CBORD on Tuesday, May 24; Diebold
on Wednesday, May 25; and Blackboard on Thursday, May 26. Presentations will be made from 10 a.m. to noon each day. Following
a lunch break, a vendor question-and-answer session will be held from 1-3 p.m. Any questions, or requests for additional information

"View My Paycheck" Self-Service Demos
University employees who receive a direct-deposit pay stub will begin to receive their paycheck information via an online
self-service application through MyBGSU after the BG@100 "Go Live" on June 27. This "View My Paycheck" self-service application
will be demonstrated at 2 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, May 23 and 24, and at 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, in 101 Olscamp Hall. Additional
sessions are scheduled in July. All interested University employees are invited to attend. No registration is necessary. Project

Outages Scheduled for May 8 & 9
The following outages for maintenance and upgrades have been scheduled at the end of the semester. Please see the listing
below to reference any outages that may impact your area.
- Sunday, May 8 - Beginning at 5 am, all network services will be unavailable in order to complete a router software upgrade.
Once the upgrade has been completed, network services will systematically be restored. It is anticipated that all network
services will be restored by 7 am. Following this upgrade, AppleTalk will no longer be a supported protocol on the BGSU network,
as the network hardware vendors are reducing support of the AppleTalk protocol. If any current devices rely on AppleTalk,
efforts should be taken to convert to an IP based solution.
- Monday, May 9 - Beginning at 12:01 am a number of ITS services will be unavailable in order to complete hardware replacements.
The services that will be unavailable from 12:01 am - 2 am include, but are not limited to: Blackboard, MyBGSU, campus web
pages, email services, department file servers, e-Time for Students, and e-Portfolio. Additionally Blackboard, WebMail, and
the LDAP Directory will be unavailable from 2am-6am in order to complete additional upgrades.

BG@100 Open Forum to include "View My Paycheck" demonstration
The next BG@100 Open Forum is scheduled for Thursday, April 21 at 2:00 p.m. in 314 Bowen Thompson Student Union.
In addition to project update information and a question/answer opportunity, the update will include a demo of the "View My
Paycheck" self-service application. After the June 27 project "Go-Live" date, this self-service application will be used by
employees who currently receive a printed check stub each pay period to obtain pay details. All faculty, staff, and students

Official BGSU Student Enrollment Certification Available via MyBGSU
Students requiring official verification of their BGSU enrollment for insurance companies, scholarships, or other agencies
may obtain a self-service official enrollment verification certificate via MyBGSU. Select the"My Enrollment Verification"
link in the "My Services" area, and proceed to the web site of the National Student Clearinhouse. BGSU enrollment information
has been provided to the Clearinghouse, and students can view or print that any time, via secure log-in.
