Common Reading Experience
What a better way to connect students than through a common book? Each year, faculty, staff, and students select a new common reading for the fall semester. The book is incorporated into the UNIV 100 - University Success course, the BGeXperience Program, and the curriculum of other first year student courses.

Objectives for the Common Reading Experience:
• To encourage students to read beyond textbooks
• To create a foundation for students to explore values and ethics
• To raise awareness and tolerance of intergenerational and cultural    likenesses and differences
• To promote academic discourse and critical thinking
• To provide an introduction to the expectations of higher education
• To create a sense of community by increasing student to student    interaction and student to instructor interaction
• To intergrate an academic and social experience into the campus    community

Common Reading Experience Selections:
2008 The Last Town on Earth by Thomas Mullen
2007 The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls
2006 Into the Forest by Jean Hegland
