How Faculty Help Save Students Money
You have a big impact on helping to keep costs of textbooks down by sending your book selection information to BGSU Bookstore early. By getting your book selections in early, before buyback begins of the current term, students receive up to 50% of the new book retail price at Textbook Buyback. When a book has not been adopted for a future term, the student may receive nothing or less than 50% of the new book retail as a wholesale book to a used book dealer. The bookstore is also able to purchase used books from the wholesale used book market and volume discounts from publishers.

Additional ways to help keep textbooks prices low include Textbook Rentals, eBooks and use of older editions as alternates to the edition selected.

Evaluate the use of bundled packages. Publishers will sometimes offer free access codes or workbooks when bundled with the textbook. When actually used for class, this can save students money when compared to new units purchased separately.  Pieces of bundles need to be available as standalone items for students who buy the book elsewhere, or share, and only need one of the parts of a bundle. Not making the individual components available as standalone items can increase a student’s total book expense by forcing them to purchase only new book bundles. When given the individual break out information of what is in a bundle, the student is given the freedom to shop around for the best value.
