Paul D. Shepherd The first director of the Bookstore, Paul D. Shepherd, was hired June 1, 1946 by University Business Manager Ervin J. Kreischer. At this time, the president of the University was Prout. Shepherd was the only permanent employee hired at the bookstore and his duties included overseeing the post office, xeroxing, and mimeographing services. Shepard was the director of the bookstore for 32 years. He retired on July 31, 1978 and moved to Arizona in 1981.

John Buckenmeyer John Buckenmeyer became the second Bookstore director in 1978 to replace the retiring Paul Shepard. He had worked at the Bookstore for nine years as the supply manager and later as the assistant manager. Buckenmeyer retired from the Bookstore in 2001 after being the director for 23 years.

Jeff Nelson Jeff Nelson currently serves as the director of the Bookstore. He brings many years of college bookstore experience to Bowling Green. He took the position shortly after John Buckenmeyer's retirement, becoming the first director of the store at the new Bowen-Thompson Student Union location
