Alumni Career Services

Welcome!

The BGSU Alumni Association is currently working to offer a wide range of resources to help meet the professional needs of Falcon alumni—whether your goal is to start, change or advance your career. In addition to live workshops, seminars and more, most services described below are available online as well.

For more information, contact Kacee Ferrell Snyder, Assistant Director of Career Development, toll free at (888) 839-2586 or via e-mail at kaceef@bgsu.edu. Or, use the Meebo window at right to chat live when available.

Individual career advising

Individual appointments can be scheduled with the Assistant Director of Career Development to discuss any of the following:

  • General session
Speak with the Assistant Director of Career Development regarding where you think you are and you their ideal future plans include; we will help you strategize your next steps.
  • Career exploration and self-assessment
Goals, interests, preferences, values, and strengths play an important role in finding a good fit for career.  There are a number of tools that can be utilized for this, including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® and the Strong Interest Inventory®, to help develop some next steps for further exploration and action.
  • Resumé critiques
It is vital to showcase skills and attributes during the job search.  Skills, experiences and abilities need to be included in the resumé.
  • Cover letter critiques
Cover letters need to be tailored for each job for which one applies. Through consultation with a career counselor, you will learn how to write an effective cover letter and highlight relevant experiences and skills.
  • Job search assistance
Finding a job in a tight economy can be challenging. However, career services can help you find the hidden job market, utilize other BGSU alumni and other networks of individuals, and make the most of online resources to assist you in finding the job that is right for you.
  • Interviewing
There are many types of interviews: phone interviews, distance interviews via video conferencing, panel interviews, behavioral interviews, and in-person interviews, to name a few. Let us help you prepare before your interview so you can put your best foot forward.
  • Mock interviews
If you are anxious about the interviewing process or just want to refine your skills, arrange a mock interview with the Assistant Director of Career Development. You will receive valuable feedback that will help you pinpoint your strengths and weaknesses.
  • Networking
Eighty percent of jobs are found through networking – do you know how to utilize your personal network? What about the network of BGSU alumni? We will help you use networking contacts effectively to enhance your job search.
