The Alumni Laureate Scholars program class of 2010 recently conducted a park clean-up project in Toledo, Ohio. They focused
on Navarre Park on Toledo's east side. This park is used as a primary source of recreation for youth in that predominately
low-income area. It is also used by the East Toledo Family Center for family and youth programs.
The crew of BGSU student volunteers picked up trash, painted park benches and remulched a playground. They recruited members
of several student organizations, Alpha Phi Omega, NAACP, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. to assist with the clean-up
project. This is one of many types of community service projects ALS conduct throughout their time at BGSU. Each scholar is
required to complete at least 30 hours of service each academic year, but many complete over 100. ALS students complete over
1000 hours of service to BGSU and the surrounding communities each year.
