Bowling Green is a vibrant place that is alive with intellectual, professional, and personal growth. Now the University seeks
to grow its offerings in visionary ways that are consistent with its heritage.
The Vision and Values Center
BGSU has initiated a host of programs to expand its values-based commitment, and they have demonstrated extraordinary success.
However, programs like Springboard and the BGeXperience affect only a small percentage of BGSU's total student population.
In a bold initiative, BGSU seeks to establish a Vision and Values Center that will integrate values exploration, critical
thinking, character development, and civic responsibility throughout the entire academic and co-curricular experience. The
Center's leadership will become the driving force behind the development of service learning opportunities, the integration
of values education into all academic programs, the inclusion of junior bridge and senior capstone experiences in the BGeXperience,
the conducting of research about values education, and the sharing of those research results with our community and a national
audience.
Funds from the campaign have supported both the Center's ongoing and proposed activities, endow a chair for the Center's director,
and underwrite faculty development and peer facilitator training. Most important, the Center will roll out the BGeXperience-which
sets the expectations and tone for the entire student experience-to the entire freshmen class.
The Entrepreneurial Programs and Innovations Center
Bowling Green's forward-thinking approach to education connects promising students with the training and resources they need
to become professionals. Now the University is looking far into the 21st century to prepare today's students for tomorrow's
biggest opportunity-entrepreneurship. While nearly three million businesses start each year, and Gallop studies show 70 percent
of high school students want to start their own companies, there is little formal education tailored to the needs of enterprising
people.
The campaign has enabled BGSU to strengthen the Entrepreneurial Programs and Innovations Center and to encourage a new generation
of business innovators. The Center will act as a hub of interaction among faculty, students, employees, and community leaders-providing
education, training, research, and other outreach opportunities. Its offerings will include a minor for University students
and its programs will emphasize opportunity recognition, business plan development, risk evaluation, acquiring financial backing,
and managing a business venture.
Center for Photochemical Sciences
BGSU's photochemical sciences program is the largest physical sciences program in the state, graduating eight to ten PhDs
per year. Chemistry developed at the Center has been responsible for practical applications as varied as improved lenses in
DVD players to stronger dental fillings. The international spotlight has helped the Center attract state and federal research
dollars, top graduate students from as far away as Russia, and valuable corporate research partnerships. Now Bowling Green
seeks to capitalize on its current reputation as a world-class research institution and to secure a lasting leadership position
in photochemical sciences.
Thanks to campaign support, the Center can retain and reward its outstanding corps of faculty members who continue to be courted
by the world's most prestigious institutions and companies. A portion of this funding will also be used to recruit faculty
members of a similar caliber who will expand the scope of research conducted at the Center.
