The BGSU faculty is an amazing collection of talents. They probe the brain's physical complexity for clues about the aging process; they test ways to help nature heal itself faster after environmental catastrophes; they explore more precise and effective medical treatments; they develop innovative approaches in the ever more complex and critical world of supply chain management.

We also insist that they be outstanding teachers-and they more than rise to the challenge. They inspire students to consider lives of service. They mentor students through the trials of research and intellectual discovery. They stimulate students to study and interact with the world and each other in new ways.

We want to sustain this tradition of scholar-teachers. However, these same abilities make our best faculty attractive to other institutions. Increasingly, we also compete with the private sector for highly qualified PhDs. In today's hiring marketplace, increased financial resources are key to the University's ability to attract the brightest young faculty and retain experienced faculty.

Endowed chairs
The most effective way to attract and retain gifted faculty members is through the establishment of endowed chairs. The goal of The Campaign for Bowling Green State University is to increase the number of endowed chairs four-fold. Chairs not only support faculty salaries, but also provide resources for research and staff, travel to scholarly conferences, and a wealth of opportunities to ensure that faculty keep learning. And while chairs empower individual professors, they also raise the bar for entire departments and bring national attention to the University.

Endowed staff leadership positions
Bowling Green coaches, support staff, and administrators play critical, sometimes behind-the-scenes, roles in transforming the lives of students. As part of the campaign, BGSU aims to establish a number of endowed staff leadership positions. These will ensure that the University and its students, regardless of program or activity, benefit from the expertise and experience of the most visionary and capable leaders.

Endowed visiting lecturers
Visiting lecturer positions provide leading researchers, scholars, and professionals from around the world with the opportunity to share their unique perspectives with our faculty and students. In newly emerging and traditional fields of study, these interactions contribute to new breakthroughs and a more enlightened campus. They also raise the national profile of our campus.
