Connie Hudson Backlund is superintendent of the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site in Flat Rock, North Carolina. She received a bachelor’s
degree in biology education (1973) from Bowling Green State University. She is active in her community, currently serving
on the board of directors for the Hendersonville, North Carolina Rotary Club. Ms. Hudson Backlund, who is a past president
of the club, received the Paul Harris Fellow for service to the Hendersonville Rotary Club, the Kentucky Colonel award presented
by the Commonwealth of Kentucky for service to the state, and numerous achievement and service awards from the National Park
Service. She resides in Flat Rock, North Carolina, and is married to Gilbert “Gib” Backlund.
