BGSU's Gamma Zeta Alumni Association of the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity helped co-sponsor the recent BGSU Leadership Academy. With a focus of building sound leaders for tomorrow's society,
the group has designated that a portion of its endowed fund be used for the campus-wide leadership academy.
The half-day leadership conference provides sessions and speakers that address such topics as ethics in leadership, reaching
out to local communities, how to start a new organization, successful organizational events and membership recruitment. Students
from across campus were invited to the conference to develop leadership skills and network with other student leaders on campus.
The fraternity's endowment fund started by two dedicated alumni—Joseph Zimmerman and Ed Leedom—is called the "To Better the
Man Fund." The fund is designed to uphold its fraternity's mission to foster lifelong human relationships based on respect,
mutual love and support, rooted in the values of the fraternity.
The endowed fund, once fully endowed at the $300,000 level, will also support an annual chapter retreat (for the Gamma Zeta
Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi), individual scholarships for books, co-op/internship grants, and housing, as well as recruitment,
leadership and graduate studies and scholarships for recruitment.
