Donor, student celebrate Honors and Awards Convocation

Rebecca Skaggs, a student in BGSU's College of Education and Human Development, was recently honored by the school and joined by donor Bill Lloyd. She is pictured with her parents, Bill and Kim Skaggs of Grafton, Ohio.

The College of Education and Human Development Honors and Awards Convocation is part of a series of similar events across campus each year to recognize the many diverse achievements of students.

Scholarships, small or large, all make a positive impact on a student’s life.

My name is Megan Smith and I am the 2007 Hal McGrady Scholarship recipient. Currently, I am a second year graduate student in the Department of Communication Disorders studying to become a Speech-Language Pathologist. After I graduate in May 2008 I plan to work in a school system as a speech-language pathologist, which brings me to this scholarship.

Mr. McGrady set up this scholarship specifically for a graduate student pursuing speech-language pathology who is going to work in a school post-graduation, just like me. I cannot thank Mr. McGrady enough for his kind contribution to my education.

Recently I was fortunate enough to meet Mr. McGrady for lunch. It was wonderful to be able to thank him in person and hear not only about his experiences at BGSU but also of his experiences as a speech therapist and working in the schools. 

I grew up in Michigan and went to Central Michigan University for my undergraduate degree, where I double majored in Child Development and Communication Disorders. I came to BGSU in the fall of 2006 and have enjoyed my experiences thus far. I look forward to finishing up this academic year, graduating in May, and moving out into the real world.

Even though my time here at BGSU was limited, I am forever grateful to the people who brought me here and positively impacted my life and education while I was here - people like Hal McGrady.
