June 2007: Kelly Coley
|
My college visit to BGSU started out the same as any other college visit. I got up really early, rode in the car with my parents,
finally found a parking spot, attended meetings and looked at countless display boards. Although the activities were the same,
my visit to BGSU felt different from the moment that I stepped out of the car. Each person that I passed was friendly, each
person I talked to was helpful, and I felt like people genuinely cared about me and my future experience at BGSU even though
they had yet to meet me.
|
|
My initial impressions of the people at BGSU were only confirmed once I began to attend school there. Regardless of what I
needed or wanted, a faculty or staff member at BG was more than willing to help me, even if that meant sacrificing their own
time. In addition, I began to find that the students that attend BGSU demonstrate this same trait of friendliness and helpfulness.

The size of BG’s campus is, in my mind, the ideal college campus size. There are few enough students that you will always
see a friendly face, regardless where you are on campus. In addition, you have the opportunity to make a significant impact
on campus due to the smaller size. At the same time, there are enough people on campus that bigger events can be put on that
will really impact the community, such as Dance Marathon.

Because of the type of students and people that are affiliated with BGSU, the university has left a huge impression on me.
I will never forget the amazing four years that I spent there. I hope to donate my own time and money in the future to BGSU
because I believe the people and the things that this university does are worth the investment.
Kelly Coley is a 2007 graduate of BGSU, and a member of the inaugural class of Alumni Laureate Scholars.
