Mary Anne Richardson Tigges '49 with two of her scholarship recipients she met at the annual College of Education and Human Development Honors and Awards Convocation. Mary Anne established her scholarship to show her appreciation to BGSU for the excellent education she received in preparation for her teaching career. Mary Anne grew up in Maumee, Ohio, was an active member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority during her undergraduate years and taught in school districts in Ohio and Michigan upon graduation. The award is intended for rising juniors or seniors majoring in integrated language arts who plan to teach at the high school level.

Muriel Hutchinson Strebe ’51, ’65, of Redford, Michigan is pictured with her book award recipient, Elizabeth Bell '08, at the College of Education and Human Development’s Honors and Awards Convocation.

Elizabeth plans to graduate in December 2008 with a degree in Middle Childhood Education with concentrations in math and science. Elizabeth is the oldest of six children and says “the scholarship really means a lot to me and my family.” In addition to being a full-time student, Elizabeth works as a waitress at a local Bowling Green restaurant.

The Awards Convocation gave Elizabeth and Muriel an opportunity to meet and get to know one another. Muriel created the award as a tribute to her parents, Verna and Frank Hutchinson, who generously sacrificed in providing her the opportunity of “a wonderful education at Bowling Green State University.” Muriel is enjoying her retirement, travels frequently and is an avid bird watcher. In addition to establishing the book award during her lifetime, Muriel has also included BGSU in her estate plan. BGSU is proud to carry on her name into perpetuity.

Sarah is a junior education major from Wayne, Ohio. She works part-time on campus at the technology help center, coaches a junior high basketball team and helps on her family's farm.

The scholarship was established by Mr. Cronemeyer and his late wife, Marjory '51 in memory of Marjory's long-time friend and college roommate, Janet Cotner. Because he feels a deep commitment to education and the fact that his mother was a teacher, Mr. Cronemeyer chose to create another scholarship in memory of his wife for students planning to enter into the field of education. The Marjory Graham Cronemeyer Memorial Scholarship will be awarded for the first time next year.
