Services for Chapters/Societies

The Office of Alumni and Development is committed to providing assistance to our chapters and societies. Listed below are just some of the ways we can help.

A dedicated staff member assigned to your chapter or society to provide advice and consultation.
Staff presence at events or planning meetings, whenever possible and feasible.
List or labels of alumni in any order desired (Ex: zip code, class year, alphabetical, donors, college involvement, etc.).
Designing, printing, and mailing two newsletters or event invitations per year, pending the availability of funds.
Blast e-mails to alumni chapter/society group.
Market programming initiatives through the Alumni Association’s website, BGSU Magazine, and E-Ziggy Zoomba.
Assist in the recruitment of additional chapter volunteers.
Provide nametags, raffle prizes, information update cards, pledge cards, and giveaways.
Information about chapter/society will be provided on Alumni Association website including information on how to get involved.
Provide awards and recognition for outstanding achievement by groups and leaders.


Expectations for Chapter

Actively recruits volunteers to serve in a leadership role for the chapter with the goal of having a board of at least five alumni or parents of current students.
Strives to have officers to serve in the following capacities: Chapter Leader, Family Events Chair, Young Alumni Events Chair, Scholarship Committee Chair, and Signature Event Chair.
Establishes and enhances the Chapter Scholarship Fund, including selecting recipient(s) every year.
Plans and implements at least one signature event per year which achieves at least one of the following criteria: assists recruitment efforts for BGSU, enhances the image of BGSU, promotes internships and co-ops and/or promotes scholarships.
Annually reviews the statement of purpose.


Expectations for Chapter Leader

Serve as the Chapter Leader for a two-year term. You are eligible for re-appointment and there are no term-limits.
Welcome and serve as an information source to alumni moving to the chapter area.
Ensure that chapter plans and implements at least one signature event per year that achieves at least one of the following criteria: assists recruitment efforts for BGSU, enhances the image of BGSU, promotes internships and co-ops and/or promotes scholarships.
Promotes the creation of and/or the growth of the Chapter Scholarship Endowment.
Works with other officers or committee to select Chapter Scholarship recipient.
Actively recruit additional chapter volunteers and alumni chapter participants.
Maintain communication with chapter by sending periodic chapter e-mail updates.
Serve as a University ambassador at events identified by the BGSU Alumni Association.
Serve as a resource to University staff traveling to the chapter area including providing contact information updates.
Attends the bi-annual Volunteer Leaders Conference.
After term is complete, recruit and train a replacement chapter leader.


Expectations for Society

Plan and implement at least one reunion activity per year that achieves at least one of the following criteria: assists recruitment efforts for BGSU, enhances the image of BGSU, promotes internships and co-ops and/or promotes scholarships.
Establishes and enhances a society endowment fund for scholarships for undergraduate students.
Maintain communication with society by sending newsletters, periodic e-mail updates, etc.
Actively works to have a leadership board of at least five alumni and/or parents of current students.
Annually reviews the statement of purpose.


Expectations for Society Leader

Ensure that the society plans and implements at least one reunion activity per year that achieves at least one of the following criteria: assists recruitment efforts for BGSU, enhances the image of BGSU, promotes internships and co-ops and/or promotes scholarships.
Serve as a University ambassador at events identified by the BGSU Alumni Association.
Serve as a resource to University staff.
Actively recruit additional society volunteers and participants.
Work with the staff in the Office of Alumni and Development to develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy with the long-term goal of having an endowed society account.
Attends the bi-annual BGSU Volunteer Leaders Conference.
After term is complete, recruit and train a replacement society leader.
