As Bowling Green State University seeks to become the premier learning community in Ohio and one of the best in the nation,
private funds are essential to help establish and maintain pockets of excellence that truly distinguish BGSU from other colleges
and universities. The University's student-success initiatives provide one opportunity for people to make a qualitative difference
in the lives of others.
Private funding is also essential for BGSU to remain competitive in recruiting the best students and those for whom a college
education might otherwise be out of reach. As tuition costs rise, it is imperative that the University has the resources to
provide financial assistance through scholarships and other types of aid. Because revenue from the State of Ohio funds only
approximately half of an undergraduate student's costs, more than 60 percent of BGSU students rely on some type of financial
aid to assist them with college expenses. Each year available financial aid falls short of meeting BGSU students' needs by
more than $3 million.
The University also continues to seek private funds to assist with construction of new outreach facilities, underwrite international
programs, endow performing arts groups, expand scientific laboratories, assist with library acquisitions and collections,
and stimulate other areas that respond to both student and community needs. Of critical value, too, are un-designated contributions
which allow BGSU to respond where funds are most needed.
Bowling Green State University is focused on the good things it is and the better things it can become. Private funding is
essential to enrich the educational environment. All contributions to the University are made through the BGSU Foundation
Inc., a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. All contributions are tax-deductible according to IRS law.
