The Bowling Green State University Governmental Advocates are members of a key organization made up of alumni and friends
of the University who can have a direct impact on policies and legislation that affect BGSU and higher education in Ohio.
An advocate may be any graduate or friend of BGSU who supports the goals of higher education in Ohio as a constituent, interested
party, or most importantly, as a voter. Through a liaison in the Office of Alumni Affairs, Advocates learn about pending legislation
and other timely initiatives through a 'Call to Action.' Members may then determine if they share the University's official
position on the issue and, if so, they are asked to contact legislators and elected officials to make their voices heard.
They also receive periodic newsletters and may be asked to work at the grassroots level-writing letters and making phone calls
to legislators regarding specific issues on the University's legislative agenda.
Elected officials depend on the feedback of their constituents and affected parties when casting critical votes. It is the
Advocates' responsibility to make them aware of our need for their support.
The Governmental Advocates program is completely voluntary. There may be times when your own personal views may conflict with
BGSU's position on an issue. If this is the case, we respect our advocates' silence on an issue, though it would be helpful
for you to relay your concerns to a staff member so we are certain to take opposing positions into account.
If you would like to participate as a BGSU Governmental Advocate, please fill out the form below. We'll send you more information
about the program, and you will begin to receive newsletters and updates about important policy decisions in Columbus that
affect BGSU and higher education in general.
We look forward to working with you!
