Ways to Give Back

When you hear the phrase "give back" to BGSU, the first type of donation that comes to mind is likely a monetary one. The truth, however, is that many types of contributions benefit the University community - including our students, alumni and friends.

Cash or electronic fund transfers
A monthly contribution via an automatic deduction from either a checking or savings account, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express – by phone, mail, online or through securities and/or mutual funds -- should be transferred electronically or by paper to the BGSU Foundation, Inc.

Charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts
These allow a donor to transfer a gift of cash, marketable securities or property in exchange for a lifetime income.

Charitable lead trusts
Provide income to the BGSU Foundation Inc. for a set number of years, after which the remainder may be transferred back to the donor or the donor’s heirs.

Real estate and personal property
Includes residences, vacation homes, farms and valuable items, such as art, make wonderful gifts and allow for significant tax savings

Retained life estate
Allows the donor to make a gift of their home, farm or vacation home, obtain an immediate income tax deduction and still continue to use the property for as long as needed. Only after the donor no longer needs the property will BGSU assume the usual ownership rights.

Beneficiary designations and contingency designations
Retirement funds, life insurance policies and other assets in which a donor names the BGSU Foundation, Inc. as a direct or contingency beneficiary can make a significant impact in the future.

Please contact the BGSU Office of Alumni & Development at 888-839-2586 or alumni@bgsu.edu for more information about these gifting options.

Talent
If you've gained knowledge in your career that might benefit a recent Falcon alum, our alumni network is full of new graduates that would love to hear from you.
