John T. Cuckler is associate vice president for advancement and controller. He earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Akron and is a certified public accountant. He previously worked in public accounting for the global accounting firm, Deloitte Touche, in internal auditing with Gould, Inc., and in corporate finance as controller of Sky Financial, Inc. Since joining the BGSU staff in 2000, he is responsible for the financial operations of the Foundation including investment portfolio management, cash disbursements, donor database management, and financial and regulatory reporting.

Montique Cotton Kelly '94, '04 is director of alumni affairs and executive director for the BGSU Alumni Association, and works closely with the alumni board of directors to implement strategic plans and programs. As a two-time graduate of BGSU, she bleeds orange and brown. Her career at BGSU started in 1996 as an admissions counselor, and her work has come full circle. “Providing alumni with meaningful experiences that engage them with their alma mater is a win-win for everyone,” she said. “When alumni are excited about what is happening at their institution, great things can happen.”

Shannon Spencer '89, '07 is director of annual giving and works with annual giving programs including Leadership Circle, Family Campaign, class reunions, and telefund. She also facilitates gifts for donors interested in making a considerable investment in education. Her career in higher education spans academic affairs, student affairs, alumni affairs and development. “I am energized by seeing the impact of our loyal supporters on the daily lives of students,” she said. “Every gift makes a difference, enriches the BGSU experience, and boosts the value of a BGSU education.”

Cal Bowers '96 is the director of corporate and foundation relations. Before joining the staff in 2011, Cal worked as a private business owner and as general manager of Falcon Sports Properties, which manages multimedia and corporate sponsorship rights for BGSU athletics. He earned a bachelor's degree in sport marketing and business from BGSU, and a master's degree in sports administration from Ohio University. “Our efforts and successful partnerships will help thousands of students to take steps toward greatness in this world,” he said.
Kirk Ross '01
Director, Gift Planning

Kirk Ross '01 is director of gift planning. He is a licensed attorney and certified trust and financial advisor. He helps donors to develop tax and estate planning strategies to maximize the impact of their major gifts. Kirk earned dual bachelor's degrees in European studies and mathematics from Berry College. He earned dual master's degrees in history and German from BGSU, and his juris doctorate from Northwestern University School of Law. “The work we do helps students get access to educational opportunities they might otherwise never have,” he said.
Joy Kantner

Joy Kantner provides high-level, executive support to the vice president for University Advancement/president and CEO of BGSU Foundation, Inc. and the assistant vice president for University Advancement. She assists the vice president and the assistant vice president with a wide variety of responsibilities, including general administration of the Division of University Advancement, budget/contract preparation and talent acquisition. Serving as liaison between the vice president and University administration, faculty and staff, as well as the Foundation Board of Directors, she assists the vice president and assistant vice president with duties associated with fund-raising and donor meetings. In this position, she transmits decisions, assignments and directives and provides information to various University constituencies.

Jessica Brunsman

Jessica Brunsman is the financial analyst, with duties that include managing daily and monthly accounting, and the annual audits for the Foundation. She joined the Foundation in 2013 with 15 years experience in public accounting and healthcare finance. She earned her bachelors degree in accounting and German from Adrian College in 1998. “I've had a love of learning for as long as I can remember,” she said, “so it seems natural to support an institution like BGSU that offers such unique opportunities for education, personal and professional growth.”

Kyle Crawford '07 is system specialist. Trained as a structured query language (SQL) analyst, he helps to maintain the database of alumni, donors and friends of BGSU. He earned his bachelor's degree in computer science from BGSU. Before he joined the staff in 2009, Kyle worked in the legal and compliance department for Sky Financial, Inc.

Susan Dunn is director of information services. She is responsible for the management of the database, and improving storing and reporting data to enhance fundraising programs and reporting needs. She has worked for 19 years at BGSU. She received her undergraduate degree from Mount Holyoke College, and master's degree in the administration of justice from American University. She previously worked to compile statistics for the Wood County Juvenile Court and for the NIJ National Criminal Justice Reference Service.

Roger Heminger is records management officer. He joined the Foundation office in 2012. He previously worked 12 years as a clerical supervisor in the BGSU Student Health Center, where he directly served students through billing, appointment-setting, and customer service functions. He previously spent 24 years in retail management. “I love working at Bowling Green State University and interacting with students,” he said. “I learn from them every day.”

Account Clerk / Matching Gift Coordinator

Lisa Kern '11 is an account clerk. She has worked with accounts payable and the matching gift program for nearly a decade. She earned her bachelor's degree in environmental policy and analysis from BGSU. Before she joined the Foundation, she worked in accounting and administrative roles in several government agencies, including the Wood County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Wood County Emergency Management Agency, and the Wood County Commissioners.

Amy Kolk is a records specialist. Before joining the Foundation in 2012, she had worked 18 years on campus in various departments such as dining services and custodial. As an account manager for parking services, she handled all parking accounts, processed billing, and managed appeals. She now helps to maintain a database with records of the accomplishments and philanthropic giving of alumni and friends of the university.

Karla Leady is an account clerk. She previously worked for Sky Bank, where she specialized in debit card fraud and electronic banking services. Since joining the Foundation staff in 2009, she has researched and recorded gifts to the BGSU Foundation, Inc. “I'm always amazed at the generosity of alumni and friends of BGSU, and enjoy opportunities to say 'thank you.' I am especially pleased when older alumni share their campus stories and their years beyond BGSU.”

Dianne Mershman '77, '83 is records assistant. She earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education and her master's degree in education from BGSU. She joined the staff in 2004. She now helps maintain a database with records of the accomplishments and philanthropic giving of alumni and friends of the university. She previously worked as a teacher at Ridge Elementary School in Bowling Green, and as a stay-at-home mom, children's librarian, and coordinator for the American Cancer Society's Community Crusade in Wood County. “I enjoy being able to give back to my alma mater,” Dianne said. “I like having opportunity of working with college-age students.”

She joined the Foundation in 2010 with more than 20 years experience in the restaurant management and hospitality industry. She previously worked as a catering manager for BGSU Dining Services. “There are many ways to say 'thank you,' and I love helping the campus community to express gratitude to our generous donors and friends,” she said.

She joined the Office of Alumni and Development in 2007 with accounting experience in industries including banking, commodities, manufacturing, and retail. She manages accounting functions for the Alumni Association and supervises cash disbursements for the Foundation.

Diana Foster provides administrative support to members of the alumni staff and serves as liaison to the Alumni Board of Directors. She has worked at BGSU for more than 29 years, and previously held positions in student loan collections, the University bookstore, and residence life.

Kelly Basden Lawrie is an assistant director for alumni and manages the Alumni Association's student scholarship program, current student initiatives, and events. She earned her bachelors degree in psychology and women's studies at Eastern Michigan University in 2006, and her master's degree in counseling and student development from Kansas State University in 2008. Before joining the Foundation staff in 2013, Kelly worked in Greek and residence life at Eastern Illinois University, Ball State University and Kansas State University. “I'm able to connect with some of our most compassionate and generous donors and some of our most talented student leaders,” she said. “Who wouldn't want this job?”

Laura Lesniewski is assistant director for alumni affairs and liaison to BGSU Firelands. She manages outreach efforts as well as social and professional development events for the growing number of alumni at the regional campus. “Our alumni at BGSU are our greatest ambassadors,” she said. “When they go on to lead successful and productive personal and professional lives, it speaks volumes to the caliber of our institution and the education they received.” Before joining the BGSU Alumni Association in 2012, she worked as a senior sales representative and district sales trainer for Sanofi-Aventis Pharmaceuticals. She was an All-American volleyball player as she earned her bachelor's degree in business administration and political science at Baldwin Wallace University.

She also worked for five years as assistant director of alumni affairs and annual giving for St. Mary's College of Maryland. “I enjoy working with students, encouraging them to study hard and make the most of their education and college experience,” she said. “I also enjoy working with alumni, listening to their stories and memories of their time at BGSU, and instilling in them that BGSU is their home.”

She is responsible for maintaining BGSU's online giving website, managing the social media plan, and implementing current technology trends. She earned her bachelor's degree in advanced technological education at BGSU. She joined the staff in 2007, having worked in the president's office at Owens Community College. “I enjoy hearing stories from alumni and donors about their experiences at BGSU and how BGSU has had an impact on their life. It makes the work we do important.”

Megan Gormley '09 is assistant director of the Falcon Club, a special community that supports intercollegiate athletics. She helps alumni and fans of Falcon athletics to make an impact in the lives of student-athletes with an annual gift. She joined the BGSU in 2011, after working in athletics at Arizona State University. “My favorite part of my job is engaging former student-athletes with their teams and helping to build the Falcon family,” she said. Originally from Minnesota, Megan earned her bachelor's degree in sport management as a scholarship athlete in golf at BGSU.

She previously worked as an assistant director of development for The Ohio State University-Extension at the Wooster Campus. She earned a bachelor's degree in agriculture from OSU. Jenny grew up near Bowling Green and is excited to return to Wood County. “BGSU has a great culture and will always feel like home to me,” she said. “I really enjoy working with our alumni and friends.”

Mary Ellen Kellow is the fund coordinator. She drafts agreements, establishes new funds, and serves as the liaison between the colleges, financial aid and scholarship recipients. Mary Ellen earned her bachelor's degree in applied organizational technology from the University of Toledo and is a certified paralegal. She joined the Foundation in 2011 with more than 15 years of legal, banking and compliance experience. She previously worked in Student Financial Aid at BGSU, where she worked directly with students, parents, and lenders.

Jan Snyder coordinates donor recognition, including Falcon Club, The Presidents Club, Leadership Circle and the 1910 Society (formerly the Heritage Society.) This is Jan's second career. She earned her bachelor's degree in communications from SUNY Fredonia, and retired after 18 years as an on-air radio personality in Rochester and Buffalo, NY. “I am really impressed with the generosity and passion for the University that our donors have,” she said. “Our University really means something to them, and they show that it does.”

Vanessa Chapman '96 is director of development and liaison for the College of Musical Arts, and liaison to alumni in Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. She graduated from BGSU after “serving” with her military husband for 20 years. She says her travel has taught her life lessons about relationships and how the smallest gift can change a life. “Giving to Bowling Green State University is investing in the future,” she said.

Stacey Hartley is director of development and liaison at BGSU Firelands. She was previously director of development for The Ohio State University Heart Center at the OSU Medical Center. Stacey is energized by the culture of local support and involvement at BGSU Firelands. “Our history is rooted in community support, as area residents first raised more than $1 million in the campaign to create BGSU Firelands. Such inspiring passion to provide affordable education in this area continues today, and I'm humbled and honored to support those efforts.”

Before joining BGSU in 2011, Shumiala worked in development for the University of Toledo Medical Center. Shumiala is now pursuing her doctorate in higher education from the University of Toledo. “It amazes me how devoted BSGU faculty and staff are to our students,” she said. “It is my unwavering belief in higher education and sincere admiration for its philanthropists that keeps me motivated.”

Mary Morrison is a director of development and liaison to the College of Business Administration, and serves alumni in Florida. Mary enjoys working to secure funding to advance the educational and research priorities of BGSU while helping donors realize their philanthropic intent and gifting objectives. She joined BGSU in 2011, having previously served students and alumni in the areas of financial aid, admissions, alumni relations, and fund raising. Mary has more than more than 15 years experience in philanthropy, and previously worked as executive director of the Toledo Hospital Foundation.

Jane Myers '92, '96 is director of development for Athletics and Director of the Falcon Club. She earned her bachelor's degree in liberal studies and a master's degree in guidance and counseling at BGSU. She previously worked in admissions. She was president of the National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD), and now serves on its executive committee. “Our University and the community are shaped by those who value the deep relationships that can be forged when people reach out to one another with their time, talent and treasure,” Jane said.

Tyson Pinion is director of development and liaison for student affairs, and works with donors in the Midwest, Colorado, and Nevada areas. Before joining the Foundation in 2012, he served Tiffin University for nine years in admissions and advancement. He earned his bachelor's degree in forensic psychology and MBA at Tiffin, now earning his doctorate in higher education at the University of Toledo. “I can't think of a more fulfilling career,” he said, “than guiding successful people to their philanthropic goals of providing opportunities for students to reach their dreams.

He previously worked as a librarian and department manager for public libraries, including the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library. “The work I do helps to create scholarships, programs, and new buildings that will directly affect current and future students,” he said. “How cool is that?”

Before joining the Foundation in 2012, she worked 15 years as assistant to the dean of the College of Education and Human Development. The role involved managing the $2 million renovation of the Education Building. Before joining BGSU, she was a journalist. “I love higher education because it changes lives,” she said. “I'm always in awe of people who are willing to give of their time and themselves to support students they may never meet.”

She said she is proud to be part of the process in which “some people give because they want to give back to the University they went to and others because they simply believe in higher education.” Her previous work experience ranged from mutual funds to agriculture, including work for her family's Hirzel Canning Company and Farms.

She previously worked in student health services for the University of Toledo. Jaclyn previously worked in management in private industry for five years. “We have prominent alumni spanning the globe who are dedicated to giving of their time, talent, and treasure to help to provide a first-class education and develop our next generation of leaders,” she said. Jaclyn obtained her master's degree in organization development at BGSU, and is now pursuing her doctorate of education in leadership studies.
