BGSU Academic Advising
Identifying Student Information: My Advisees
Sign on to MyBGSU and select "My Advisees", found in the "Academic Services" section.
ADVISEE LIST
You will see a list of every advisee assigned to you, although some may not be enrolled during the current term. This list, which will be updated WEEKLY, includes:
- Student Name
- PID (P00) Number
- Program Name (Major name)
- Class Standing (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior)
- BGSU Hold
Y means the student has a Mandatory Advising hold.
The hold can be removed within the individual advisee page by clicking on the "Remove BGSU Advising Hold" button at the top of the page. - Academic Status (Good Standing, Probation, Dean's List, etc.)
Click on the "Academic Status Descriptions" link at the bottom of the page to see a list of all codes defined. - Student Status (Continuing, New, or Not Registered)
Click on the "Student Status Descriptions" link at the bottom of the page to see a list of the codes defined. - Send E-Mail.
You can send e-mail to an individual student by clicking on his/her e-mail address.
Note: You will have no record of any correspondence sent in this way. - Select E-Mail Addresses
You can send e-mail to a selected group of students by choosing the boxes in this column and then clicking on the "Selected Students" button at the bottom of the page. A window will be displayed with advisee e-mail addresses. Copy and paste the addresses into your e-mail. You can send e-mail to all your advisees by selecting the "All Students" button at the bottom of the page. Again, a window with the e-mail addresses will be displayed.
Actions you can perform:
- Sort
You may sort the list by any of the above categories by clicking on the column header. - PIDN Search
You may view information for a student who is not on your advising list by entering the PID at the top of the page in the PIDN box. You must then click on the "Go" box to pull up student information. Using the return key will not work.
INDIVIDUAL ADVISEE PAGE
Click on a student name to reach the individual advisee page. The student's local address and phone number will be displayed.
There are five options for additional information located in a box at the top of the page. Highlight the desired option and click on "View." (Note: if you are using Internet Explorer on a Mac, you can choose the first view option without difficulty. If you wish to select an additional view option, you will need to depress the shift key before making the next selection.)
The five options available are:
- Schedule
Schedules for both the current semester and the upcoming semester may be viewed. Once students begin scheduling the following semester's courses, the default view is the upcoming semester. If you wish to view the current semester, click on the semester designated in the box at the top of the screen. Choose the current semester and then click on "Get Schedule". - Background Data
- Final High School GPA
- American College Test (ACT) scores, percentiles, sub-scores
- BGSU Placement Scores
- Mathematics
The SIS Code score is listed. Click on "view help" to see the SIS Code translated to course placement. For additional information, go to the Math Department website: http://www.bgsu.edu/departments/math/ In the "Courses, Programs, and Students" section there is an explanation of placement codes, as well as math course maps and recommended tracks through college algebra, precalculus, and calculus. - Writing
The course placement is listed. - HS Language Studies
The language studied and number of years taken is listed.
- Holds on Account
The screen displays the type of hold, the service that is being held, when the hold was put on, who put the hold on, and what the student should do to resolve the hold. The Mandatory Advising hold can be removed by clicking on the "Remove BGSU Advising Hold" button at the top of the individual advisee page after discussing the following semester's course selections with the student. - Advising Notes
You may add notes and also view notes that others have listed for the student. Other advisors will be able to view the notes you list. - Degree Audit
The Degree Audit for the current major is the default. To view, click "Continue", then "Submit a New Audit", then "DETAILS". Other audits can be requested by clicking "Continue" from the initial DARS screen or, if already in the program, pull down the "Audits" menu and select "Request New Audit" to get to the "Audit Request Page". Then click "Run Selected Program" and make a selection from the drop-down boxes. Click "Submit a New Audit", then "Refresh List", and then "DETAILS".
Click on the Click on the "Help" link at the top of the audit to view general guidelines for reading the Degree Audit.
Progress Reports may be added to this list of options in the future.
