Why can't I just drop in when I have a question? The mentor sessions are established to provide on-going help because that is the best way to learn and retain your course
material. We keep the groups small so that everyone has a chance to participate.
Two-absence Policy A student who misses two sessions will be dropped from the group, and that spot may be filled with a student from our waiting
list. There is an appeal process, but it is lengthy and we cannot guarantee that the student will be re-instated in the same
group.
Students must bring in five questions to each session about material they do not understand. Two sessions without questions = one absence.
If a mentor is absent, the students work together for the entire session, helping each other. The session counts as attendance.
Attendance policy for individual conferences
Why an attendance policy? Valuable conference time, at a premium because of budget constraints, is wasted when a student does not show up. That time
spent waiting for a no-show could have been used working with another student.
The Study Skills Center will not make appointments for the remainder of the semester for those students who:
- Call (within a reasonable time frame) to cancel two times but do not have a formal excuse (e.g. health)
- No Show two times - a "no-show" is when a student makes an appointment but does not come for the appointment and does not
call.
