In Brief: April 30

Faculty and staff share their reasons for Family Campaign giving

With the 2014-15 Campus Campaign, also known as Family Campaign, well underway, faculty and staff have been sharing their reasons for supporting the campaign. “Whether it’s a simple ‘because I care’ or ‘because I believe in BG’ or a common theme of supporting our students, the reasons we all choose to give are inspiring,” said Jenny Wensink, associate director of annual giving. Their reasons shared are posted on a gallery.

Just as the family is often the core its members can turn to in need, the University community has always been there for its students, said Wensink. “We who work firsthand with students see every day the challenges they face — and the difference financial support can make.”

Last year’s campaign yielded more than $750,000, with 22 departments achieving 100 percent participation. Since its inception, the campaign has raised more than $11 million.

Gifts from the University family are also a powerful endorsement that helps make the case with outside donors and alumni, demonstrating the commitment of those closest to the institution. That is why every gift, no matter the size, helps.

Campus Campaign representatives from across campus have been working all semester to provide leadership and help coordinate special events within their areas. Those who have not yet made a gift this fiscal year may fill out a form online.

Unrestricted gifts to the Campus Campaign will go toward scholarships, or donors may designate a gift to any area they choose. Gifts and pledges may be made by check, credit card or payroll deduction.

All gifts, in any amount and to any University area, made before June 30 count toward Campus Campaign. If you have made a gift and would like an “I give because” circle to display in your area, contact Wensink at wensinj@bgsu.edu.
