Center for Teaching and Learning recognized

Bonnie Fink, director of BGSU's Center for Teaching and Learning, holds the Unit Award.

BOWLING GREEN, O. —The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) was recognized for its outstanding commitment to faculty development on March 22 during Bowling Green State University’s annual Faculty Recognition Dinner. The office was awarded the BGSU Faculty Senate Unit Recognition Award.

In his letter of nomination, Dr. Paul Cesarini, an assistant professor and chair of the Department of Visual Communication and Technology Education, called attention to the leadership of CTL director Bonnie Fink, commending her and her staff for developing the office into a “one-stop shopping” area for all things related to increasing student engagement and active learning.

“In addition to offering an increasingly focused number of faculty learning communities – which are always open to graduate students and staff, as well – the CTL has taken a leadership position in promoting teaching excellence regardless of discipline.”

Cesarini also praised CTL’s wide range of new workshops, which he says helps the University stay current with the best pedagogical practices, and the expansion of the annual Teaching and Learning Fair. “This has grown from a somewhat small, intra-university event to a larger, more regional event that has the makings of eventually growing into a fully peer-reviewed, academic conference.”

On its website, CTL states it is dedicated to supporting “faculty, staff, and graduate student instructors who strive to achieve excellence in teaching through innovation, collaboration and creative solutions.” Cesarini says the center’s staff lives up to that statement.

“The CTL staff will stick with a faculty member in seemingly any way he or she wants, by way of individual sessions with skilled faculty consultants, intensive workshops led by faculty and staff from a variety of different disciplines across campus … and a host of other services.

“The CTL represents an extraordinarily valuable asset to the BGSU community, and deserves to be repeatedly recognized toward this end.”
