Hands-on science program for girls slated Nov. 9

BOWLING GREEN, O.—Seventh- and eighth-grade girls will discover exciting career opportunities available to them in a fun and educational atmosphere at Bowling Green State University's annual Women in Science, Math, Engineering and Technology program.

Sponsored by Continuing & Extended Education, the program is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 9, from 8:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the main campus.

The conference, now in its 19th year, allows for personalized learning while motivating and inspiring girls to explore career options in traditionally male-dominated scientific and technological fields.

Students will participate in hands-on experiments and creative problem solving. The girls will also have an opportunity to meet positive female role models who have a passion for science, math, engineering and technology.

The Wood County Park District is presenting “Absolutely Batty” as the keynote presentation for the program.

The creative program will teach students not to be afraid of bats and to understand the beneficial things they do. Students will discover fascinating features of bats and their adaptability. A bat's senses of hearing, sight and smell will also be investigated.

The fee for the program, which includes lunch, is $15 for students and $12 for accompanying adults. For more information or to register, call Continuing & Extended Education at 419-372-8181 or 1-877-650-8165, email psherry@bgsu.edu or fisherk@bgsu.edu, or visit http://pace.bgsu.edu.
