The
Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics is designed
to be completed in four years. Changing majors,
academic issues, or other unforeseen circumstances
may require additional semesters for completion.
Upon
completion of a professional practicum (internship)
after graduation and the successful completion
of the national registration examination, a
graduate can be a registered dietitian, eligible
for licensure in states that require licensure.
Learning
Outcomes
Upon
completion of the baccalaureate degree, students
in dietetics are expected to:
- Use
critical thinking and quantitative analysis
skills to investigate food and nutrition science
problems;
- Demonstrate
competent use of a variety of laboratory techniques
and instruments to investigate food and nutrition
science problems;
- Plan
and evaluate various menus and diets for individuals
and groups that emphasize optimal nutrition;
- Apply
food safety knowledge and principles of the
Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)
system to prevent food-borne illness;
- Apply
knowledge and skills necessary for quantity
food production and management of a food service
establishment.
