program would prepare students to work with
persons with disabilities in a wide range of
environments outside of school settings (e.g.,
business, residential settings, public and private
agencies).
Learning
outcomes
The
student will demonstrate knowledge of the philosophical,
historical, and legal foundations of special
education, rehabilitation, and disability services:
- Demonstrate
knowledge of the characteristics of persons
with disabilities;
- Demonstrate
knowledge and application skills in the assessment,
diagnosis, and evaluation of persons with
disabilities;
- Demonstrate
knowledge and application skills in communication
and collaboration in the delivery of services
to persons with disabilities;
- Demonstrate
knowledge and application skills in professionalism
and ethical practice in the delivery of services
to persons with disabilities;
- Attain
employment in the field of developmental disability
and habilitation;
- Demonstrate
knowledge and application skills in providing
case management and habilitative services
to individuals with disabilities;
- Demonstrate
knowledge and application skills in applying
the Americans with Disabilities Act to providing
counseling, case management, vocational assessment,
and advocacy to individuals with disabilities;
- Demonstrate
knowledge and application skills in vocational
assessment and career development counseling
for individuals with disabilities;
- Demonstrate
knowledge and application skills related to
the medical aspects of disabilities.
- Demonstrate
a knowledge of private and public agencies
and facilities that provide assessment and
rehabilitative services to individuals with
disabilities;
- Demonstrate
a knowledge of scope of practice in schools,
public and private agencies, and facilities
that provide assessment and counseling services
to mental health seeking individuals.
