Sign-Up for SOAR
First-year and transfer students, please follow the steps below to sign-up for SOAR.
STEP 1: Create Your MyBGSU Account
When admitted, you received a Certificate of Admission from the Office of Admissions with information about establishing your BGSU account, including your BGSU ID Number. If you have not already done so, you must set-up and activate your BGSU account before conducting any other business related to your enrollment at BGSU.
Go to bgsu.edu/newaccount and follow the prompts to activate your BGSU account.
STEP 2: Log into Your BGSU email account
By visiting bgsu.edu/email, you can log into your email account. Make sure to start regularly checking your email account. BGSU faculty and staff will use this email address to communicate important information to you.
STEP 3: Reserve your Date for SOAR
Log on to MyBGSU at my.bgsu.edu. Click on "Students" at the top of the page. On the left-hand side under "Academics," click on the "My Orientation Reservation" link. Follow the prompts related to Student and Guest reservations and make necessary payment. Payment is required to confirm your Reservation and secure your selected date. After completing your SOAR reservation, you will be emailed an E-Confirmation Packet to your BGSU email; be sure to check it out for additional details about the program.
*Please note: There is no payment associated with Transfer Orientation.
STEP 4: Complete Writing Placement Tests
Complete your online Writing Placement Test by May 1st or at least two weeks in advance of attending SOAR. Find out more information about Placement Tests here.
STEP 5: Check-out your Next Steps
Prior to your on-campus visit for SOAR, visit our Next Steps page. The site includes important information and a checklist of things to do and read before and after attending SOAR.
STEP 6: Plan Your Visit!
You can find important details such as arrival times, a list of local overnight accommodations, and directions to campus by clicking on the links to the left.
