Although students may choose from other on-campus residence hall options, here are two with a focus on music and the arts:
Batchelder Hall (located in the Kreischer Quadrangle)
Students living in Batchelder Music Community share day-to-day living experiences, help one another with assignments and attend social and cultural events together. With practice rooms in the residence hall and a location across the street from the Moore Musical Arts Center, the Batchelder Music Community is the ideal place for those with a passion for music. Not all Batchelder residents are music majors, but special preference is given to students who are accepted into the College of Musical Arts.
The Arts Village (located in Compton Hall in the Kreischer Quadrangle)
The Arts Village is open to students in any major with an interest in music, dance, art, theatre or creative writing, as a profession or a vocation. The community encourages students to explore all aspects of the arts in the company of other creative individuals and faculty of various disciplines. The Arts Village offers on-site classes specifically geared toward students of the arts, collaborative projects, activities and social events. Visiting galleries and attending concerts, readings, theatrical and dance productions encourage students to enjoy the arts with others who value the arts. There is an additional program fee of $150 per semester.
“Although I have adjusted well to living away from home, I would just like to say to new students that they should be prepared to find new ways to get organized. There is much more to remember and more to fit into 24 hours than in high school.”—Sara Rose, pre-music history
The BGSU residential learning communities were recognized in the 2006 U.S. News and World Report's “America’s Best Colleges” for the third consecutive year.
