Helen McMaster Endowed Professorship in Vocal and Choral Studies

Nomination Process

All members of the vocal, choral and opera faculty and staff are invited to propose future projects for funding through the Helen McMaster Endowed Professorship in Vocal and Choral Studies. At this time, projects less than $6,000 will be considered.

Previous projects have included nationally known artists visiting our college and campus for short-term residencies (performances and master classes). Proposals will be reviewed by an expert panel external to the voice, choral and opera area and the best proposal will be approved for future implementation. A competition for future projects will insure that our students will benefit from the very best opportunities supported by the Helen McMaster Endowed Professorship.

In the event that approved projects exceed the available earnings of the endowment, either supplemental funding will be obtained, or funds will be accumulated over more than one academic year for a special residency.

In the event that the approved project is a commission of a major vocal, choral or operatic work an external 2:1 match will be expected.

Please note, the preferred time frame would be the first week in October each fall, but other dates will be considered.

Directions

Submit a narrative (two pages maximum) that completely explains the project and the benefits to the students in the College of Musical Arts and attach a one-page proposed budget.

Applications are invited at any time but will be reviewed after September 1 and December 1 each year.
