Double Reed Day Oboe and Bassoon

Open to bassoonists and oboists of all ages and abilities. Music Educators are welcome to attend.
Everyone should bring their instrument, and repertoire regardless of performing in a master class.

Please note that registration will only be available online. Registration closes Friday, February 19, 2016 at 4pm. Registration will NOT be available at the door on February 21. The $20 registration fee includes lunch and access to all activities for the day. Parents of participants are welcome to attend free of charge.

Events

Solo competition, performances, master classes, double reed choir for all that want to play, vendor exhibits, and a closing performance with the competition winners.

Categories

Oboe:
High School: Ages 15-18
College Level: Ages 18-22 (graduated from HS)

Bassoon:
High School: Ages 15-18
College Level: Ages 18-22 (graduated from HS)

Eligibility

Students must be older than 15 and younger than 22 on the competition day.

Repertoire

Any work for oboe or bassoon with piano accompaniment. A minimum of 5 minutes of length is required.

Pre-screening

  • Competitors must submit an unedited recording of themselves performing their chosen competition repertoire (maximum 10 minutes). Submitted recordings with piano accompaniment will be given priority, but recordings may be submitted without the piano accompaniment. Cuts are allowed, with written description of the cut(s) upon submission. Recordings must be received by January 22nd, 2016.
  • Submissions by mail or electronically are acceptable.
  • The work performed at the competition must be the same as on the audition recording.

Acceptance

A maximum of 5 competitors in each of the four categories will be accepted to compete. All entrants will be notified of acceptance in the competition by email no later than February 1st, 2016.

Accompanist

All works must be performed at the competition with piano. Upon acceptance in the competition, competitors may provide their own pianist or request an accompanist through BGSU. A copy of the piano accompaniment music must be sent with the audition recording. If requesting a BGSU pianist, mark cuts in the piano part upon submission.

Prizes

For each of the four categories a 1st prize, 2nd prize, and Honorable mention will be awarded.

 1st Prizes: $75 gift certificate to TrevCo-Varner Music, Certificate of Participation, and performance at the Double Reed Day closing concert.

2nd Prizes: $50 gift certificate to TrevCo-Varner Music and Certificate of Participation

Register today to participate in the Oboe and Bassoon masterclasses with our guest artists and host faculty. Spaces are limited! Participants will be selected to represent a varied repertoire. You will be asked to list your masterclass repertoire on the registration page.

How to Prepare

Keep in mind a masterclass is like a private lesson open to an audience. Therefore your participation must be performance ready. Concerto competition repertoire is acceptable material for the masterclasses.
