FALL 2014 AUDITION MATERIALS

Updated: July 31, 2014

Questions regarding auditions for all BGSU Bands should be directed to: bgsubands@bgsu.edu or by calling (419) 372-2186.

Color Guard auditions are held in April and early August.

Prospects for the Falcon Marching Band Color Guard should plan to attend the audition on Saturday, April 19, 2014 (1:00-6:00 p.m.) or Monday, Aug. 4, 2014 (1:00-6:00 p.m.) to demonstrate their ability to handle a flag.  If you attend the April audition and are selected, you do not need to attend the August audition.  If you are not selected in April, you may re-audition in August.

For the audition, prospective members should dress in comfortable clothes for spinning in an indoor environment.  Tryouts consist of a short routine that is taught at the audition followed by performance of the routine.  Prospects will be judged on performance ability, potential to adapt to different styles, and attitude. The Falcon Marching Band Color Guard uses six foot poles, so prior preparation with that equipment is helpful.

If selected, you will move into your residence hall room one week before fall semester classes.  If at any time before fundamentals week you decide you no longer wish to participate in marching band, please contact the band office by email to bgsubands@bgsu.edu.  Only then will your name be removed from the mailing list.

Please fill out this form so your name can be placed on the mailing list. This information does not obligate you to audition.

Drumline auditions are held in April, June and July, with the final audition occurring during Fundamentals Week.

Attention:  2014 prospective drumline members:

The dates for the 2014 Falcon Marching Band Drumline audition sessions are on the following Saturdays from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.:

April 19th in BGSU’s Moore Musical Arts Center
June 28th location to be announced
July 26th location to be announced

These clinic sessions will give you a chance to learn what it takes to be a member, and give you a chance to get to know the great people in the ensemble.  All audition sessions are encouraged because it gives us an opportunity to know you as a performer.

During each session, each section auditions together as a line and focuses on establishing the style and sound of the ensemble.  Continual growth as a musician is beneficial, so we look for that to take place from session to session.

The final audition will be held Sunday, August 17, prior to fundamentals week (August 18-23).  The audition will consist of two parts.  The first is an individual evaluation, followed by a final ensemble evaluation. During the individual evaluation, students will be asked to perform specific musical selections.  These selections will be posted on the band website.

Please fill out this form so your name can be placed on the mailing list. This information does not obligate you to audition.
