Auditions

Band Wind and Percussion:  Band Wind and Percussion auditions will take place on Monday, August 22 and Tuesday, August 23.

This audition is for placement for the academic year, with the following exceptions:

  • auditions will be held to fill seats in spring semester created by vacancies due to student teaching, etc.
  • some studio teachers wish to audition all of their instrument in November for spring semester, and this is done by request of studio teacher.

Each student should bring two prepared solos or etudes of contrasting styles that demonstrates both their musical and technical abilities.

Color Guard Audition Information

Attention:  2016 prospective Falcon Marching Band Color Guard members:

If you attend the April audition and are selected, you do NOT need to attend the audition in August.  If you attend the April audition and are not selected, you may re-audition in August.

For the audition, prospective members will demonstrate their ability to handle a flag.  Prospective members should dress in comfortable clothes for spinning in an indoor environment.  Auditions consist of a short routine that is taught, followed by performance of the routine.  Prospects will be judged on performance ability, potential to adapt to different styles, and attitude.  The Falcon Marching Band Color Guard use six foot poles, so prior preparation with this equipment is helpful.

If selected, you will move into your residence hall room (if living on campus fall semester) one week before fall semester classes for fundamentals week.  If at any time before this you decide you no longer wish to participate in marching band, please send an email to the band office at bgsubands@bgsu.edu.  Only then will your name be removed from the mailing list.

Please fill out this form so your name can be placed on the mailing list to receive a letter with audition details.  This information does not obligate you to audition.  If you have further questions, please contact the Band Office at bgsubands@bgsu.edu .

Drumline Audition Information

Attention:  2016 prospective Falcon Marching Band Drumline members

The clinic sessions will give you a chance to learn what it takes to be a member, and give you a chance to get to know the great people in the ensemble.  You are encouraged to attend all audition sessions because it gives us an opportunity to know you as a performer.

During each session, each section auditions together as a line and focuses on establishing the style and sound of the ensemble.  Continual growth as a musician is beneficial, so we look for that to take place from session to session.

There will be a final audition held. This audition will consist of two parts.  The first is an individual evaluation, followed by a final ensemble evaluation.  During the individual evaluation, students will be asked to perform specific musical selections.
