SMI Steel Drum Camp
June 15–20, 2008
Due to unexpected low enrollment, the SMI staff regrets to announce that we must cancel the SMI Steel Drum Camp, June 15–20. SMI staff will be contacting the individual campers by phone.
Improvisation is part of what makes steel drum music a creative, interactive musical experience. This summer you have the opportunity to experience music of the Carribean islands in traditional styles (soca, regae and calypso) as well as Western art music styles.
This camp will feature intensive small group and full steel band experiences. Various forms of classroom study will introduce the student to the craft of improvisation as an element of performing steel drum repertoire, the history of the steel drum and the construction of these instruments. Students will have the opportunity to learn all of the drums as well as drum set and other “engine room” percussion instruments.
Questions? Contact Bryan Stanbridge at (419) 372-1007 or email at bryanss@bgsu.edu.
This camp is partially sponsored by Pro-Mark, makers of high-quality sticks and mallets.
