Opera at BGSU

Many rising young talents in the opera/musical theater world today sang their first performances on the Kobacker stage at BGSU. With the guidance of our faculty who offer extensive experience and knowledge in the world of opera, students seeking a career in opera/musical theater find the BGSU opera department an excellent place to begin or continue their studies.

The opera department presents at least two major productions each school year.

Many opera students sing with area opera groups in Toledo, Detroit, Ann Arbor, Cleveland and other cities. In addition to singing roles on the respective main stages these resident artists perform in the community and region in outreach, educational and promotional programs.

Committed to bringing a love of opera to both the student and the surrounding community, the opera staff at BGSU strives to produce excellent and entertaining productions. Students in the opera program are encouraged to develop their talents in the many areas needed to become a quality performer including: movement, diction, languages, stage experience, musical styles, range of repertoire, production methods and career orientation.
