Online Media Room

Media Credentials

Reporters planning a campus visit should contact the Office of Marketing & Communications at 419-372-2616 for assistance in arranging interviews with members of the University community or obtaining information. Sometimes, University-issued media passes may be required. BGSU reserves the right to restrict access to some campus locations for security and/or safety reasons.

Campus Parking

Reporters may park in metered lots located around campus or in the gated parking lots west of the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. Parking for television satellite trucks for remote broadcasts must be arranged in advance through Marketing & Communications or, for sports events, through the Athletic Department.

Special one-day parking permits may be acquired for other parking lots through the University's Visitor Information Center. Reporters are always welcome to park at the Visitor Information Center and take the BGSU shuttle to other campus locations.

News media vehicles may not park in any parking spot marked "reserved." That includes parking reserved for the handicapped--unless the journalist's vehicle displays a state-issued handicapped-parking permit. Vehicles also are prohibited from parking in designated fire lanes or on any brick sidewalks.

Campus parking violations are subject to University and state-mandated parking fines.

Directions to campus and campus parking maps can be found on the University's Web site at http://admissnt1.bgsu.edu/visitbg/directions.php. Printed campus maps also are available on request.

Satellite Uplinks

Satellite uplink services are available through WBGU-PBS, the University's public television station. Costs include studio time and an engineer for the uplink, another in the studio, one camera and one audio person, and a director. At this time, interviews can be done analog-only on ku-band.

WBGU studios can also be used for high-quality remote sound recording or live interviews for radio broadcast.

Call Marketing & Communications at 419-372-2616 for more information.

Campus Residence Hall Access

On-campus student housing is considered to be the private domain of students. Reporters wishing to talk with University housing residents should call Marketing & Communications for assistance in identifying public areas where such interviews might take place. Interviews are contingent upon the availability and willingness of students to be interviewed. Likewise, photography in residence halls is restricted. Call Marketing & Communications at 419-372-2616 for assistance.

Crisis Communications

In the event of a disruption of campus operations due to weather emergencies or other occurrences, Marketing & Communications will extend operating hours as appropriate to meet the informational needs of the University community and of the news media.

Emergency information will be posted on the BGSU Web site at www.bgsu.edu, recorded on the 419-37-ALERT (419-372-5378) emergency phone line and issued to the news media through available means (telephone, fax, e-mail and/or in person).
