Moore Musical Arts Center was built in 1979, and is the largest instructional building on campus. The building is designed
to provide up-to-date facilities for the needs of the high quality curriculum of the College of Musical Arts. It contains Kobacker Hall (capacity 850), Bryan Recital Hall (capacity 250), pianos and organs, a Balinese Gamelan, music
technology studios, music computer lab, curriculum lab, professional recording studio, a harp studio, two large rehearsal
halls, small and medium-size rehearsal rooms, and an instrument repair shop.
The college is internationally renowned for its broad-based programs, and has earned special acclaim as a center for the composition
and performance of contemporary music. The center houses the MidAmerican Center for Contemporary Music which annually sponsors the internationally renowned New Music & Art Festival on campus each fall.
The College of Musical Arts hosts more than 500 musical events and recitals each year. Orchestras, bands, choirs, jazz and chamber music ensembles are just a few of the traditional options
available to students who seek the excitement of performing with other student and faculty musicians. Many nonmusic majors
also participate in these groups, which range from familiar ensembles such as brass choirs, woodwind quintets and string quartets
to the highly specialized New Music and Early Music Ensembles. The college also places strong emphasis on exposing students
to music from other cultures and offers the opportunity to perform in several multicultural groups, ranging from the Kusuma
Sari Gamelan to the Afro-Caribbean Ensemble.
