Expanding and Upgrading Services for the University Community

Beginning in April, the University will begin bringing its two email systems – @BGSU.edu and @falcon.bgsu.edu (FalconMail) – together into one cloud-based system.

The changes, which will be completed by November 2013, will offer significant improvements and access to more features.

The Benefits

  • Faculty, staff, students, retirees and alumni will all be in the same email system.
  • Students, faculty and staff will be in the same calendar system.
  • Email storage capacity will increase from 1.5 gigabytes to 25 gigabytes.
  • Access to Skydrive will provide 7 gigabtyes of storage capacity and the ability to access files from tablets and phones.
  • Access to Microsoft Office Apps (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and One Note) from any web browser.

The move to the new cloud-based system will occur through a series of steps.

Dual Account Holders    [ more ]

Users who have both an @bgsu.edu email and a falcon@bgsu.edu email account have transitioned to one account.  This part of the email unification has been completed as of May 1, 2013.

SkyDrive

FalconMail users being consolidated to BGSU email accounts will continue to be able to access their SkyDrive material.  As of May 1, these users will go to skydrive.live.com in order to access their SkyDrive files.  These users should also note that after May 1 a change to their BGSU password will no longer sync to a change in their SkyDrive password.

Students / FalconMail users     [ more ]

Student FalconMail accounts will move to the new cloud based system in May. After the transition FalconMail users will become Unified BGSU email users and will login using <BGSUusername>@bgsu.eud.  Students may notice slight changes in the email interface and there will be a revision in SkyDrive access.  FalconMail users will be emailed details regarding the transition that will occur the week of May 13-17, 2013.

Following the May upgrade, students will experience one final transition in order to utilize the most recent version of the software. Following this transition, the email interface will change and SkyDrivePro will be available to students. At this point, students may begin using their new email address (user@bgsu.edu). Any messages being sent to their @falcon.bgsu.edu address will be automatically forwarded to their new address indefinitely.

Faculty and Staff / @bgsu.edu users     [ more ]
After May, faculty and staff email accounts will be transferred to the unified cloud-based email system. The transition will take place in phases and account holders will be notified by email with further details regarding this transition. Once faculty and staff have transitioned they will be able to take advantage of the additional storage space and enhanced features. Faculty and staff will continue to utilize their bgsu.edu email addresses. Additional information will be available closer to the transition period.
