Online Directory Search

The search link allows the user to search for information within the bgsu.edu domain and the directory link provides the opportunity to search for Faculty, Staff or Department information.

As soon as the data is recorded into the PeopleSoft system.

As soon as you are matriculated.

Directory information will be removed from public search after you have left the university.

Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), students have the right to withhold specific personal information including their campus directory data. For more information see: Request to Withhold Directory Information.

Information is received from the PeopleSoft system on a nearly real-time basis. Therefore, most updates made in the PeopleSoft system will appear immediately in the online directory.

The default limit is 300 records. It would be best to narrow down your search for faster returns.

Please make sure you search using your legal name (primary name). For example, if you searched using the first name of 'Cindy' but your legal name is Cynthia, please try the search again using the First Name of 'Cynthia'.

No. Only first name and last name are used for searching.

Because we currently do not have a business process or system solution in place to allow students to pick and choose what directory information should be displayed on the directory (address, phone, photo, preferred name, etc), we opted to give minimal student information with phase I (student name and email address) and nothing if their FERPA flag is set.

The new directory search gets real-time directory information directly from PeopleSoft system. PeopleSoft system is not designed for fast directory search. The former directory search was using LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) which is specially designed for query directory information, that is why the former one was faster, but isn't real-time as the data is 24 hours old.

Many of the departmental home pages contain a departmental directory listing. So if you know the person's department and they are faculty, staff, or a graduate student, you may wish to check for such a listing.
