BGSU Provides Virus Protection Software on all University Owned Machines.  Please do not remove this software or attempt to install your own software as it will put your machine at a greater risk for Virus infection.

Personally Owned Machines

On personally owned Windows Computers, BGSU suggests that you install Microsoft Security Essentials to protect your machine from incoming attacks. Please use this page for questions on installing or using Microsoft Security Essentials.

It is also very important to turn on and use Microsoft Firewall.  Use this page for help activating and understanding Microsoft Firewall.

Making sure your machine has the latest software updates will also help protect you from known threats.  Visit this site to search for windows updates.

 

Macintosh Computers

BGSU Provides Virus Protection Software on all University Owned Machines.  Please do not remove this software or attempt to install your own software as it will put your machine at a greater risk for Virus infection.

Personally Owned Machines

For your personally owned Macintosh Computer, BGSU has a site license for Virex so we can make virus protection software freely available to all current BGSU faculty, staff, and students for use on home or departmental computers. This software package can be downloaded by anyone via the MyBGSU Software Download.  For assistance using reaching those downloads, use this guide.

It is also very important to use the Mac OSX Firewall. Use this page for help activating and understanding the Mac OSX Firewall.
