LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) is a protocol used for accessing online directory services. BGSU is currently
using an LDAP server to store the information for the University’s online directory. This information can be accessed in a
variety of ways, such as:
By using a program such as Eudora. Below are instructions for configuring Eudora to use BGSU’s LDAP server.
Macintosh
Open Eudora 6.x or above
Go to Eudora > Preferences
Click on the Hosts Icon on the left side of the Settings window
In the Directory Services field type: ldap://ldap.bgsu.edu/dc=bgsu,dc=edu
Click on OK
You are now done configuring LDAP
To look up information in the BGSU directory, go to Window > Directory Services
Type a name in the Enter Query box and click on Lookup
PC
Open Eudora 4.x or above
Go to Tools > Directory Services
In the Protocols area (upper right corner), select LDAP and click on New Database…
In the Modify Database window, select the Network tab
Enter a name for the server under the ‘ Type the name by which you would like to refer to this server’ (This can be any name you want. (E.g. BGSU Directory))
In the Host Name field enter: ldap.bgsu.edu
Click on the Search Options tab
In the Search Base field enter: dc=bgsu,dc=edu
Click on OK
In the Databases area (bottom right corner), put a checkmark in the box next to the server entry you just created (e.g. BGSU Directory)
You are now done configuring LDAP
You can now look up information in the BGSU directory by typing a name in the Query box and clicking on Start or
You can access LDAP at a later date going to Tools > Directory Services
