Spacer Setting a Eudora Auto-Reply for Windows Spacer

An auto-reply message can be setup in Eudora so that any time you are out of the office for an extended period of time (vacation, business, etc) and someone e-mails you, a message will automatically be sent back to them. In this message you can tell them that you are out and when you will return (or whatever you would like them to know) so that they will not expect a reply to their message until after that time.

  1. Open Eudora
  2. Create a new e-mail message 'Message' > 'New Message', leaving the To: field blank
  3. In the body of the message, type the response that you would like the recipient to receive
e.g. I will be on vacation until June 5th. (or whatever you would like it to say)
  4. When you are finished typing the message, go to 'File' > 'Save as Stationary'
  5. In the 'Save as...' box, type in a File Name that you would like it saved as and click on 'Save'
  6. Close the message by clicking on the X in the upper right corner of the message or by going to 'File' > 'Close'
  7. Go to 'Tools' > 'Filters'
  8. In the bottom left corner of the window, click on 'New'
  9. At the top of the window under 'Match', make sure there is a check mark in the 'Incoming box'. 'Outgoing' and 'Manual' should be left blank
  10. In the Header field, select "To:" from the popup menu.
  11. In the popup menu below the Header field, change "contains" to "appears," and leave the box to the right of it empty.
  12. Under 'Action', in the middle of the window, choose 'Reply with' from the first drop-down menu
  13. Another drop-down menu should now appear to the right of 'Reply with'. From here, choose the name of the message you just created
  14. Close the 'Filters' window by clicking on the X in the upper right corner of the message or by going to 'File' > 'Close'. Click 'Yes' in the 'Save changes to filters?' window that appears
  15. Go to 'Tools' > 'Options'. Click on the 'Checking Mail' icon towards the top of the window
  16. Make sure the option 'Check for mail every ____ minute(s)' has a number other than zero (0) in the box (15 or higher is recommended)
  17. Towards the bottom of the window, make sure there is a check mark in the 'Send on check' box
  18. Click OK to save the options
  19. Setup is now complete.

In order for this to work, you MUST leave your computer on and have Eudora running while you are out of the office.

To turn auto-reply off:

  1. Go to Tools > Filters,
  2. Select the Filter you created earlier
  3. Click on the check in the box next to "Incoming" to remove it
  4. Close the filters window and click "yes" to save changes
