SEARCHING FOR CLASSES:

The Search For Classes button is used to search for classes, within your chosen career and program, in which to enroll.

You will navigate to the Class Search page.

The field value for Institution will always default to Bowling Green State University.

The field value for Term will default to the appropriate term for current enrollment. Verify you are searching for classes in the appropriate term.

Notice the Search for Classes and Browse Catalog options. Browse Catalog will be defined in the Browsing Catalog.

If you need to change the term click the drop-down arrow in the Term field and you will be able to access additional terms that will enable you to view past course offerings or plan future class schedules.

Verify you have selected the correct term.

Verify the radio button in front of Search for Classes is selected and click the Go button.
Select Search for Classes and click Go

When using this search method you must use at least two fields for your search to be effective.

Double check the term on this page to ensure you are searching for classes in the appropriate term.

You can enter class specific information such as the Course Subject, Course Number, and Course Career to aid in selecting the appropriate class.

Use the select subject button to assist you in selecting your Course Subject or if you know the Course Subject, simply type the Course Subject abbreviation, such as PSYC, in the Course Subject field.

The default value for the Course Career field is Undergraduate. If you are searching for Graduate classes, this value must be changed to Graduate.

The default value for Campus field is Main Campus. If you are a Firelands student you must change this value to Firelands Campus.

The Course Attribute field is used to search for Web Based classes, BG Perspective (General Education), and First Semester Student Classes (Values) for example. The field values here identify characteristics about a class.

The Additional Search Criteria section, offers additional search fields which allow you to search by Meeting Time, Day of Week, Instructor Last Name, and Location.

The Location field, found at the bottom of the page, can be used by students to locate Web-based classes.

Two values, available when you click the drop-down arrow in the Location field, will assist students who are looking specifically for Web-based class selections. These values are:

Distance Education values: Fireland and Main

After entering the appropriate search criteria, click the Search button to start the search.

A good rule to follow is to enter as much class information as you have for this search. For example, if you have the class number, enter this number in the Class Nbr field. If you know days and times you want to attend this class,enter that information in the Meeting Time and Day of Week fields.

If your search results are not satisfactory, click the Clear Criteria button to enter different search criteria.

When you click the Search button you will navigate to the Class Search Results page.

Remember to always verify you are searching for classes with the correct term!

This page lists possible search results under the search parameters used. A reminder at the top of the page lists the search criteria used in your current search.

A legend follows in which the symbols for Open, Closed, and Wait List are defined.

Buttons are available to Change Institution or Term or Start a New Search.

If there are more than 3 sections offered click the View All Sections link to view all classes offered.

By clicking the link associated with the Section heading, you can drill down to view more detailed information regarding an individual class.

Pay close attention to the 4-digit class numbers. 1000 to 4999 are used by Main Campus undergraduate students, 5000 to 7999 are used by Main Campus graduate students, and 8000 and above are used by all Firelands students.

The 5-digit class number in parenthesis within the Section heading is used to enroll in classes. An example would be 72425 or 72427.

When you click the link associated with the Section heading you will navigate to the Class Detail page.

Verify Term (always a good idea).

The Class Details section includes class Status, Units, Class Components, and Grading Option.

NOTE: Location and Campus. Class Details will note if classes are held on the Main Campus or on the Firelands Campus.

Enrollment Information
Class Availability
Description (of Course)


To go back to the Class Search page click the Return to Results button and continue to view details for different classes or start a new search.

BROWSING THE CATALOG:

Make sure the radio button in front of Browse Catalog is selected and click the Go button.

You will be navigated to the Browse Catalog page.

The Institution and Term will be displayed at the top of the page. Verify you are using the correct term.

You can select courses alphabetically.

The Course Attribute field is used to search for Web Based classes, BG Perspective (General Education), and First Semester Students Only (classes) for example. The field values here identify characteristics about a class.

Select Show All Courses if you want to view all courses whether or not class sections are offered for the term.

Select Show Courses With Sections Offered to view only those courses that have class sections offered for the term.

Select the Catalog from All Campuses, Main Campus, or Firelands Campus by clicking the appropriate radio button.

Click the Collapse All button to view Course Names only.

Click the Expand All button to view Course Numbers, Description of Courses, and links for Class Sections.

Click the vertical scroll bar to view additional course selections for that letter of the alphabet.

You can click the Description link to view detailed information about a course.

When you are ready to view individual class selections, click the View Class Sections link under the Action heading.

OPTIONAL STEP:


If you click the Description link you will navigate to the Course Detail page.

Information available on this page includes, Course Components, number of Units, Grading Basis, Enrollment Information, and Description of course.

You can navigate to individual class sections by clicking the View Class Sections link.

You can also navigate back to the Browse Catalog page by clicking the Return button.

This step is not necessary if you know Course Details but it can be very helpful if you need more information about course attributes.

When you click the View Class Sections link you will navigate to the Class Search Results page.

This page allows you to view the classes available, for a particular term, within the course from the course catalog.

Information on this page includes Section numbers, class Status, (i.e., Open, Closed, Wait list), Instructor, Meeting Dates, and Days and Times of class.

When you find the class in which you want to enroll, write down the Class number you see in parenthesis. You will need this number for the Enrollment Process.

For example, based on the information to the right you would write 72569, 72603, or 72613.

When you click the Change Institution or Term button you will navigate back to the Institution and Term selection dialog box where you can change this search criteria.
