1. Open a web browser and go to https://myvpn.bgsu.edu.
2. Click on the link at the right to authenticate using the new method.
3. Enter your username and click Continue. (This should be the same username you use for E-mail and the Portal)
4. Enter your password and click enter. (This should be the same password you use for E-mail and the Portal)

NOTE:  For added security, validate that the current date and time are displayed on the 

bottom of the textpad.

5. You will now need to create your new Security Profile, after you read about the Security Image and Phrase, as well as the Password Security Questions please click Continue.
6. If you do not like the Security Image and Phrase that was randomly selected for you, you can change them by clicking the link to get a new image and phrase.
7. To improve security, you can also click the link to upgrade to a higher security device.  This will allow you to answer your Password Security Questions using an on-screen keyboard.  The on-screen keyboard provides protection from key loggers.  This is recommended if you plan to be regularly accessing MyVPN from public kiosks or other untrusted computers.
8. Once you’re finished, click Continue to answer your Password Security Questions.
9. From the first drop-down box, select the question you would like to answer, then enter the answer in the textpad to the right.  Once you have answered the question, click enter to submit your answer.

NOTE:  Please reference the Answering Password Security Questions section on Page 2 of this document  for tips on answering the Password Security Questions.

10. Repeat the previous step to answer the remaining 3 questions.  This will complete the registration process and you should be forwarded to the VPN home page.

NOTE:  If you are using Internet Explorer 8 as your browser, you may receive a Pop-Up message stating the following: “This website wants to install the JuniperSetupClient.cab from Juniper Networks. If you trust the website and the add-on and want to install, click here…” If so, proceed and then click on ‘Install this Add-on for All Users on This Computer.’ Finally, click ‘Install’ on the IE Add-on Installer Security Warning. You should then be directed to the VPN home page.

Answering Password Security Questions:

When you enter an answer to your password security question, it must exactly match the answer we have on file.  Otherwise, the system will reject your entry.

• Choose a question that only you know the answer to.  For example, if your anniversary date is viewable on a social networking site, don’t use a question that asks for this information.
• Choose questions you can answer consistently.  If you answer a question such as “What is your favorite hobby?” with “golfing”, the system will reject “golf” in the future.
• Use one-word answers whenever possible.  Avoid qualifiers such as “the”, “and”, “inc.”, “co”, etc…
• Note the emphasized words in the questions.  For example, if you security question is “What is your current best friend’s FIRST NAME?” don’t put “John Smith”.
• Be careful with people’s names. When using a friend’s name as an answer, make sure to use his or her familiar name.  That is, if you call your friend “Jimmy”, don’t use “James” as your security answer.
• Pay attention to instructions.  If the question asks for your wedding anniversary, note the preferred format (January 2).
• Be careful with spaces. If you use “El Paso” as an answer to one of your security questions, the system will reject “ElPaso”.
• Avoid using quirky or nonsensical answers. You probably won’t remember them later.
• Don’t choose a question that is associated with your password.

We have attempted to compose a list of questions that are safe, stable, simple, memorable, and applicable to a large percentage of the population.  However, we realize that we will not be able to provide questions that will be applicable to every user.  If there is an instance that you do not feel like you have a good answer to any of the questions presented to you we recommend creating a unique, memorable answer to one of the questions.
