What is an Office BGSU e-mail account?
An Office BGSU E-Mail Account is a special type of BGSU e-mail account for University administrative and academic departments, other University faculty and staff groups and registered student groups. These accounts allow departments and groups to conduct all their business correspondence through a single e-mail address.

Who can apply for an Office BGSU e-mail account?
The "Application for Office BGSU E-Mail Accounts" is available as an online form. Only University administrative and academic departments or offices, other University faculty and staff groups and student groups registered with the Office of Campus Activities are eligible for Office BGSU E-Mail accounts. The applicant for these accounts must be the head of the department or office, chair of the faculty or staff group or faculty or staff advisor of a registered student group applying for the account. The applicant will also provide the name and username of any other group members who should be given access to the account and specify the type of access each person should have. Read and write access means that the group member can read and send messages.  Read access only means the group member can only read messages. The applicant may also designate a Contact Person (who may be the same person as the applicant). The Contact Person will be the person ITS will contact for routine matters related to the account. The completed application should be returned to the Technology Support Center (TSC), 110 Hayes Hall, to be processed. After the account has been created, the contact person will be notified by e-mail with the account information.

How does an Office BGSU e-mail account work?
During the application process, the head of the department or official representative of the group will select a user-name for the account. This group user-name will be used by all persons using the account. The preferred group e-mail address ( user-name@bgsu.edu) is the address that will be given to correspondents of the department or group.

To use the account, users must have their own individual BGSU e-mail account and be notified that they have be given access to the office account.  Then, after following the procedures for opening a BGSU Office Account from within the application used to read e-mail (Outlook, Entourage, OWA), members are then able to create and send new e-mail messages, as well as read, respond to, and delete e-mail sent to the group e-mail address.

In all outgoing mail, the group's e-mail address will appear on the "From:" line in the message header (e.g. dbt@bgsu.edu"). Correspondents will send e-mail to the group's e-mail address (e.g. dbt@bgsu.edu). In outgoing messages sent from the account, the e-mail address or name of the department or group will appear in the header information. (e.g. "From: Department of Bicycle Training <dbt@bgsu.edu>")
