Security Warnings |

- My BGSU is SSL enabled. That means that it uses a security protocol, SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), which encrypts information
you send and receive so someone else can't read it. This ensures the security of the communications between your browser and
our enterprise portal server.
- However, My BGSU also allows you to request external documents. These documents are always loaded from servers that do not
provide encrypted communications.
- As a result you will occasionally see a security warning message. The content of the message may vary based on the platform,
browser and operating system you are using.
Internet Explorer 6.0's warning message indicates the presence of mixed content. The mixed content refers to the existence
of both secure (SSL) and unsecure (non-SSL) content.
Netscape 7.1 for the PC warns you that some content on the encrypted (secure site) page is unencrypted (from an insecure site).
- These warning message do not affect the security of our system, they are merely informational. The messages exist to identify
the nature of the content you are viewing. The mixed content warning messages will appear when you try to load almost any
page in the enterprise portal.
- Mixed content warning messages will also appear in Blackboard course and organization shells when a link directs users to
unsecure content from an external site. These are commonly referred to as external links in Blackboard's courseware systems.
Again, there is no reduction in security. The messages are merely informational.
- If you want to remove the security warnings, you can change your browser settings to allow mixed content.
