The mail system within Blackboard is configured to send e-mail to the BGSU Exchange Server. If you have your BGSU e-mail forwarded to a Hotmail address, e-mail sent from Blackboard may not get to you.
Summary:
To correct this, go to Hotmail and click on the "Options" link next to the "Address Book" tab. Look at the "Junk Mail Filter" and "Junk Mail Deletion" links.
- Turn "Off" the "Junk Mail Filter"
- Set "Junk Mail Deletions" to "Delayed"
Details:
Hotmail assumes that e-mail without anything in the "To:" field is junk mail. Blackboard puts e-mail addresses in the "Bcc:" (blind carbon copy) field, not the "To:" field, in order to protect the privacy of e-mail addresses. So Hotmail thinks that all e-mail sent from the Blackboard system is junk mail.
Hotmail filters junk mail and either places it into a folder called "Junk Mail" or deletes it immediately. The safest way to reconfigure Hotmail is to turn off junk mail filtering and delay the deletion of junk mail.
Turning off junk mail filtering means that all mail will be delivered to your Inbox. You will get e-mail from the Blackboard system and be able to manually delete the real junk mail that appears.
Delaying the deletion of junk mail means that anything placed in the "Junk Mail" folder will remain there for 14 days before being automatically deleted. Setting this to "Delayed" if filtering is turned off is actually superfluous. If filtering is turned off, nothing will be going into the "Junk Mail" folder so it doesn't matter whether junk mail is saved or deleted. This setting comes into effect when/if you turn on junk mail filtering in the future. Rather than deleting the e-mail when it is received, it will be saved in the "Junk Mail" folder.
