Blackboard was selected for BGSU to facilitate web-based instruction. Blackboard's flexibility and ease of use allows instructors and students to communicate and collaborate through real-time chats, threaded
discussions, class e-mail, and online file exchanges. With Blackboard, instructors can create and manage course web sites without having to know HTML. Blackboard also facilitates the development of virtual communities and includes an advanced architecture that allows for web-based integration
with multiple administrative systems. For example, the integration between Blackboard and BGSU's Crossplex system has enabled students to access information such as grades, class schedules, and bursar records
with a single sign on. This access to personal records was previously unavailable online. Blackboard was launched on August
1st, 2001 and was last updated in August, 2007. We are currently using Blackboard 7.2.
