Spyware is a term used for advertising software also known as Adware. It generates revenue for shareware authors by allowing
banner ads in their products in exchange for a portion of revenue generated from those banner ads. It is automatically installed
with many file sharing programs.
Taking a closer look
Many of these advertising companies also install tracking software on your system. This software collects data about your
browsing habits and sends this information to a remote location. There is virtually no way for a user to control what information
is collected and passed once these programs are installed. They silently run in the background, collecting data, and use your
internet connection to connect to these remote databases. This can severely slow down your system, alter system files, and
slow done your browsing capabilities along with introducing many annoying pop-up ads all without your knowledge or permission.
