The Document Imaging Management (DIM) department uses the latest technology to help reduce the costs of document storage and
printing. Documents, such as forms, letters, and applications are stored electronically, eliminating the need for large amounts
of storage space. Storing documents electronically also allows for easier organization and retrieval, increasing productivity.
Digital images of paper documents are captured and stored using a tool called OnBase™. Developed by Hyland Software Solutions,
OnBase is an all-in-one content management program that enables scanning, printing, e-mailing, and organizing. All documents
are stored with descriptions of their important attributes and contents, so they can be instantly retrieved using OnBase’s
powerful search feature.
Using OnBase, thousands of documents have already been imaged and stored. The DIM department, aided by other Digital Services
staff, hopes to continue the trend of storing Bowling Green State University’s documents electronically into the future, eliminating
the use of bulky file cabinets for good.
