The Digital Media Resource Center (DMRC) allocates digital assets in an efficient storage space. All assets such as photos,
slides, microfilm, and audio visual files can then be retrieved almost effortlessly. Using software programs such as Telescope,
the DMRC is able to browse among the hundreds and thousands assets from all over the world. Telescope is used to categorize
all of the assets into collections and to sort them accordingly by their metadata.
DMRC plans to preserve all of BGSU’s assets by cataloging them into collection on Telescope. Many project of this nature have
already begun. For instance, all of the University’s history, such as yearbooks, have been digitalized and indexed into the
Telescope database.
Within Digital Services, Amy Beltano, digital asset analyst, has been working on cataloging BGSU assets in particular. Focusing
on higher education marketing, Beltano has also been working with departments in the College of Arts & Sciences. The metadata
structures established will need to be consistent and also flexible enough to allow for the unique structure of the various
disciplines available in a campus community.
