-
What is CICS?
- CICS (Customer Information Control System) is an online software product maintained by Information Technology Services that
allows departments to view or update data on administrative files through desktop computers and terminals in their offices.
The system controls the interaction between applications and users.
-
What software do I need on my desktop computer in order to run CICS?
- The software required for your desktop system depends on your system type. If you are running in a Windows environment, the
supported application is Vista. For Macintosh systems, Brown TN3270 is the supported application. For more information on
these applications and how to obtain and install them, refer to either
Using SecurID on a Windows XP System or
Using SecurID on a Macintosh System.
-
How do I obtain an CICS account?
- In order to obtain an account on the RADAR mainframe to use CICS, two forms need to be filled out and submitted to the Technology
Support Center(TSC). They are the APPLICATION FOR IBM RADAR ADMINISTRATIVE COMPUTER ACCOUNT (a two page two-ply form) and
the
SecurID Card Agreement Form. The CICS contact person in your department will need to sign the SecurId form. A letter will be sent back to you with your
new RADAR username and password. It will take 24 hours for the account to be created. The TSC has copies of these forms and
is located in Hayes Hall 110.
-
How do I request removal of access to CICS?
- To remove access to CICS, complete the
CICS Removal Memo. Present the form to the Technology Support Center (TSC). The TSC is located in 110 Hayes Hall.
-
What is a SecurID card and why do I need one?
- A SecurID card is a small device used as part of the authentication process when a user is attempting to log onto the RADAR
mainframe. It displays a six-digit number that is used in combination with your CICS username to verify that you are authorized
to log on. A SecurID card is necessary due to the fact that the connection to RADAR is being made through a network or modem
connection instead of a direct hard-wired communication line. If you need further information about SecurID cards, refer to
either
Using SecurID on a Windows XP System or
Using SecurID on a Macintosh System.
-
How do I initiate bringing up transactions in CICS?
- After launching the connectivity software on your desktop and receiving a connection to RADAR, the Blockade logon screen will
appear. At this point, you will enter your RADAR CICS username an password followed by the Passcode. The Passcode is the 6
digit number that displays on your SecurID card. Once this process is complete, you will be connected to the CICS news screen.
This is the starting place where you then enter the name of the transaction or system name (such as AHRS, AFIN, SAM, SIS)
you want to work in. When you are finished working in CICS, return to the CICS news screen and press the 'F3' key or the "Clear"
key to return to the Blockade logon screen. For more information regarding these procedures, refer to the "Connecting to CICS"
section in either the
Using SecurID on a Windows XP System or
Using SecurID on a Macintosh System.
-
How do I sign off of CICS correctly?
- Get to the NEWS screen and press the 'F3' key or your 'CLEAR' key when you are ready to exit CICS.
-
Can I work in more than one CICS application at a time?
- It is possible to have more than one CICS transaction active at one time through the use of a software product called CICS-Windows.
There can be up to three sessions active at one time. To find out more about CICS-Windows and how to take advantage of its
features, refer to the
CICS-Windows Reference Document.
-
Can I assign PF Keys for the CICS transactions I use the most?
- PFKE is a CICS screen that allows you to assign transactions to the PF keys of your choice. All transactions that are written
for CICS will have the capability of transferring to other transactions by pressing a single PF key. Enter "PFKE" at the News
screen to invoke this function. PF 13 to PF 21 and PF 24 have been reserved for this purpose. The PF key assignment can be
different for each CICS user.
