When deciding which sessions to select please keep the following in mind:
If you will be receiving an assistantship contract and have not previously completed GSO (or GradSTEP) you are required to complete 10 GSO session hours plus your departmental programming activities. The session registration form is set up so several sessions on Monday and Tuesday will be pre-scheduled for you based on your type of assistantship or track preference. There will be two session hours on Tuesday afternoon that are of your personal choice. These will be the sessions you select using the session registration form that will be available June 15th to July 15th. There are mandated sessions scheduled for Tuesday morning and two online training modules. Please refer to the Mandatory Training page for complete details for the online training modules. These online training modules are accessible from your home computer and can be complete at any time prior to arrival for GSO.Sessions for Monday are determined for each participant based on their assistantship or area of interest. If you are not receiving an assistantship please indicate if you want to attend teaching-based or research-based sessions for Monday.
GA's who hold Residence Life or Greek Life assignments, need to register for 3 GSO session hours in addition to the mandatory sessions. This is because you will be involved in similar orientation activities within your assistantship areas. Check with your assistantship supervisor for the time blocks available for you to register for GSO activities.
Before completing the form, carefully review your departmental programming. The departmental schedules will be e-mailed to you by June 15th and are available online. Contact your DL if you have not received this information by July 1st. Some departments may have selected GSO sessions that they recommend you attend so be sure to register for those first. Also, do not register for a session that is of a similar content topic or activity included in your departmental programming.
STEP 1:
Use the Index of GSO Sessions to review sessions offered to select topics that are of interest to you. Then use the GSO-Week-at-a-Glance to determine the time the session is offered. Keep in mind that several sessions are repeated giving you the opportunity to attend as many of your preferred sessions as possible. Carefully review each session description to ensure that the sessions you select to attend will be beneficial to your needs. You can access this information on the Session Descriptions page.
Next, you will open the Session Registration Form.
STEP 2:
Complete all information on the form. If you are receiving an assistantship and are unsure of your assistantship assignment you should check with your Graduate Coordinator before completing this form.
STEP 3:
When completing the Session Registration Form select your session choices from the drop-down lists available in each of the time slots available for Tuesday.
STEP 4:
Online session registration will be available June 15th to July 15th. Forms received after July 15th cannot be processed. If you are not able to register prior to July 15th you will be able to register for your sessions during Check-In on Sunday, August 14th.
STEP 5:
Keep a copy of your session selection schedule that you submit and bring it with you when you check-in at GSO.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
- If you will be receiving an assistantship contract you must bring two forms of identification such as a passport, or a picture ID such as a valid driver's license plus a Social Security card or original Birth Certificate. Photocopies of any of these documents will not be accepted.
- Completion of Check-in may take up to 60 minutes so please plan your arrival at Olscamp Hall accordingly.
- Graduate assistants required to complete GSO week should plan on being on campus 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., August 15th and 16th. Check your departmental program schedule for additional time commitments for the week.
- You must attend ONE of the following check-in times: Sunday, August 14th from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. (for students that do not pre-register for their sessions by July 15th); or Monday, August 15th from 8:00 - 9:30 a.m. (for pre-registered students). You will receive your final GSO week schedule at Check-In.
